Soap stars are to appear in an ITV1 show paying tribute to pop icon Madonna. And it seems many like nothing better than showing off their own musical prowess.
Several have turned up on Stars in Their Eyes in the past, while Kim Medcalf (EastEnders’ Sam Mitchell) and Coronation Street’s Debra Stephenson (Frankie Baldwin) appeared in Celebrity Fame Academy.
Not to be outdone, some of the lads from Coronation Street appeared in tribute show Queen Mania.
Just a week later, on April 16, ITV1 is broadcasting Madonna Mania, which will feature some of the singer’s earliest TV appearances as well as rare footage of the Material Girl in action.
It should be enough to keep the most die-hard fan happy, but that’s not all the programme has in store. A host of famous faces will also be on hand to reveal what they love about Madonna.
Among those appearing will be Corrie’s Samia Ghadie (Maria Sutherland) Nikki Sanderson (Candice Stowe) and Jane Danson (Leanne Battersby).
Various Emmerdale cast members, including Emily Symons, who plays Woolpack landlady Louise Appleton, and Sammy Winward (Katy Addyman) have also been lined up to discuss Madge’s songs, videos, image changes and sexuality.
Non-soap stars cropping up during the evening’s entertainment include Tony Blackburn, Emma Forbes and James Hewitt.

Madonna has turned her back on acting to focus on producing movies, after her onscreen efforts were axed from husband Guy Ritchie’s latest movie. The 46-year-old pop superstar’s scenes in new film Revolver have reportedly been cut, but the disappointment hasn’t deterred Madonna from pursuing her big screen ambitions. She’s now hoping a feature-length documentary – based on her 2004 Re-Invention world tour – will bolster her status in the movie industry, especially if it’s included in the line-up of films to premiere at this May’s prestigious Cannes Film Festival in France.
Madonna’s also eager to appear at Cannes so she can chat to directors about some of her film ideas. A source tells British newspaper The Mail On Sunday, “Madonna has learned the hard way from Revolver that the only way to have a say is to become a producer. “It’s been her dream to premiere in Cannes, but she cannot afford to make another mistake so she’s working with Swedish director Jonas Akerlund, who directed Mickey Rourke and Brittany Murphy in Spun.
“She also plans a light, fluffy teenage movie called Material Girls about a pair of cosmetic company heiresses who lose their family fortune.”

Zut alors! Madonna and Guy Ritchie cannot understand their own children – because they speak in French all the time.
Movie director Guy’s grandad has revealed Rocco and Lourdes have all but shunned English at home. The two enfant terribles have been attending posh Lycee Francais School in west London, where they study the language. And with Lourdes now fluent – and Rocco well on the way – their folks are clueless as to what they are saying. John Ritchie is quoted in The Sun as saying: “Rocco is certainly picking up a lot of French.
“He speaks it all the time at home because Lourdes is fluent. They talk to each other in French all day, chatting away non-stop. “It’s very funny. Neither Guy or Madonna speak a word of the language so they cannot understand anything.” Let’s start with the basics, Madge: un, deux, trois…
