Madonna sees off hernia to claim prize

Madonna overcame a hernia to attend the Brit Awards, it was confirmed last night.
The 47-year-old pop queen, who is renowned for energetic dance routines, had what her spokeswoman described as "a minor operation" in the United States last week following her show-stopping performance at the Grammys.
The mother of two, who now lives in London, last night received the award for Best International Female Solo Artist at the Brits. The spokeswoman said the star had fully recovered.
Madonna was accompanied to the ceremony by her husband, Guy Ritchie. The couple have been dogged by rumours their marriage is in trouble.
When Madonna's name was read out, Ritchie went to kiss his wife, but she appeared to turn away. In her acceptance speech, she thanked everyone except Ritchie.
The singer even thanked Stuart Price, the British producer with whom she has been linked. She ended: "Last, but certainly not least, I would like to thank all of my British fans because without you I would just be another singer from across the Pond."
