Madonna is turning her documentary on saving orphans in Malawi into a movie to launch herself as “the female Bono”?.
The singer, 48, hopes millions worldwide will flock to see the film, provisionally titled Raising Malawi after the charity she founded in the Aids-ridden country.
Footage of Madge’s adoption of tot David Banda will feature in the flick, as well as her search to find a girl to adopt as a sister for him.
The movie will publicise her Kabbalah beliefs and also show footage of her interviewing her hero Nelson Mandela.
A family friend yesterday said: “She has poured her heart and soul into this movie and believes it will have the same effect on the world as the Live Aid concerts.
“Madonna wants to dedicate the rest of her life to helping children.
“She desperately wants to become the female Bono and be taken as seriously as him. Her days of being the Material Girl are gone.”?
Most of the scenes will be filmed on Madonna’s current trip to the African country.

Madonna News for April 2007
Madonna is expected to arrive in Malawi on Monday where she will visit the orphanage from which she adopted a one-year-old boy last year, a top official said on Sunday.
The pop star was initially expected to arrive in the impoverished southern African country on Sunday.
“What we know is that she is expected tomorrow (Monday) and will immediately visit two sites,” a senior government official told Reuters.
Madonna will inspect an orphanage being built in Mphandula Village, just outside the capital Lilongwe, that she is helping to fund, as well as the Home for Hope orphanage from where she adopted David Banda six months ago, the official said.
The singer’s spokeswoman says she has no plans to adopt another child although media reports suggest Madonna plans to adopt a young girl.
An official from the Home for Hope said she was not sure whether David would accompany Madonna but confirmed she was expected there on Monday.

The grandmother of Madonna’s adopted son David Banda yesterday revealed the singer had made a promise to find a Malawian sister for the youngster.
Athnette Mwale, 58, said charity workers told her and son Yohane David’s biological father that Madonna “would return for another child very soon”?.
She said: “I have prayed to God that my boy will have a sister to play with from his own country. When the adoption people came to speak to Yohane about David they said Madonna would give him the best life in the world. And they promised that she would find him a sister, another orphan from Malawi.”?
Yohane, 31, speaking from Lipungo, a village of 30 mud huts, said: “I have never met Madonna but would love to see my son again. I hope she comes to visit.”?
Madge, 48, is flying to Malawi with her children Lourdes, ten, Rocco, six, and 18-month-old David. Husband Guy, 39, is not expected to go.
She has “set her heart”? on a three-year-old tot called Grace after seeing footage of the youngster in a documentary she is funding.
Madonna will also visit her hero Nelson Mandela, 88, in Johannesburg, South Africa, next Friday.

Madonna is determined to get all she can out of her new collaborators Justin Timberlake and Timbaland – she’s working them around the clock. The pair are working on several tracks on the Material Girl’s forthcoming album in a London studio – and admit they thought they would have more free time to check out the sights in the British capital. Timbaland sighs, “We are working around the clock. Justin was meant to be out tonight but he’s too tired.”

Sources close to Madonna say the pop queen is headed back to Malawi this weekend to look at adopting another baby. “She’s going to Africa on Saturday, and on Sunday her family will be one bigger,” our spy predicted. But her rep, Liz Rosenberg, said, “Madonna is going to Africa to continue her work with the Raising Malawi organization. She is overseeing the building of a children’s health-care center. She is absolutely not adopting another baby.” Last year, Madonna and husband Guy Richie caused a furor when they got little David Banda from the poverty-stricken nation in an adoption some said was illegal.

Madonna reportedly flew back to Africa with her adopted son David to meet with the boy’s biological father last night, according to US news reports.
The pop star hopes to spend a few days with Yohane Banda in Malawi and open discussions concerning her plans to adopt another child, according to American publication Life & Style.
An insider tells the magazine: “She wants David to have a relationship with his biological father.
“She’s going under the guise of a vacation, but she’s not on vacation – she’s on a mission.”
Madonna, who also runs a foundation for abandoned children in Malawi, was harshly criticised when she adopted Banda last October; critics accused her of using her wealth and fame to fast-track the adoption process.
The source tells Life & Style that Madonna hopes her trip back to Malawi will help show her critics that the adoption was “an unselfish act of love.”
The insider adds, “She plans on having David’s father be part of the extended family. She wants to show that her adoption was not what it was portrayed as in the media.”
Madonna’s publicist, Liz Rosenberg, has confirmed the trip, stating: “She’s going to continue her work with the Raising Malawi Orphan Care Initiative, including the building of a children’s care centre.”
