MTV News on "Candy Shop"

Could a 17-second snippet of a song called "Candy Shop" be a leak from Madonna's upcoming album?

Fans speculate that it's of a track Madonna was working on with either Timbaland or Pharrell but reps for none of the three camps would confirm.

"I have no comment about the song 'Candy Shop,' " Madonna's longtime rep Liz Rosenberg told MTV News. "Madonna has studio time booked and is continuing to work on her new CD. The songs are not mixed, and until that time, we can't finalize the track list."

The yet-untitled album is due later this year.

'Whiplash' Madonna Ad Cleared

A telly ad starring pop queen Madonna has been cleared of pandering to paedophiles.

The advert for H&M shops shows the star wielding a riding crop in front of a woman who is stripped by two men and put into trendier clothes.

Viewers complained it encouraged child-sex perverts and violence.

But the watchdog Advertising Standards Authority dismissed the claims.

It agreed some people found the ad offensive.

But it said the actress in the commercial was 24 and did not dress like a schoolgirl.

And they ruled Madonna's whip would be seen as a symbol of her artistic style, not a threat of physical punishment.

The advert is banned from being screened during children's TV programmes.

Rumour : Madonna eyes $100M Live Nation Mega-Deal

Madonna is pondering hanging up on Warner Music Group in favor of life without a traditional record contract.

With the Material Girl's existing pact with Warner Music Group's Warner Bros. Records winding down, her camp is considering an all-encompassing music deal with touring giant Live Nation that could be worth more than $100 million.

An agreement, if struck, would create an entity that would manage all Madonna-related businesses, including albums, touring, merchandise and sponsorships over a multi-year period. Live Nation would acquire an equity stake in the pop diva's overall business.

The joint venture company would then look to enter into an agreement with a label to handle distribution and marketing support of any Madonna album releases.

Madonna is currently in London working with A-list names like Justin Timberlake, Pharrell, and Timbaland on the follow-up to 2005's "Confessions on a Dancefloor." It's the last studio album due under her existing pact with Warner and is tentatively scheduled for release later this year.

Warner Bros. Records Chairman and CEO Tom Whalley, Madonna spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg and Live Nation all declined to comment.

Privately, insiders regard the Live Nation talk as the opening salvo in what figures to be an extended re-negotiation of her deal, which was last extended in 2000.

Sources say her camp has also been shopping to other labels the joint venture concept, which follows in the vein of deals inked by EMI with Korn and Robbie Williams.

"Confessions" - a commercial and critical comeback from 2003's disappointing "American Life," was Madonna's first album with the existing Warner management team of WMG CEO Edgar Bronfman Jr., U.S. Recorded Music CEO Lyor Cohen and Whalley.

It has sold over 1.6 million copies in the U.S. and spawned a successful world tour that ranked as the top grossing series ever for a female artist. The 60-date tour generated over $193 million in reported revenues.

WMG's stock hit a new 52-week low Friday, slidding 4.8 percent, or 65 cents, to $12.76. Live Nation closed down 3.4 percent, or 71 cents, Friday to $20.14.

Gossip : Madonna in furious row with crew member

She's fiercely protective of her children and woe betide anyone who crosses her.

So when Madonna overheard someone taking a pop at her baby boy - there was only going to be one winner.

We can reveal that Madge was devastated when a female crew member bitched about her adopted son on the set of her husband Guy Ritchie's new film, RocknRolla.

And she wasn't going to let the nasty comment go...

The 48-year-old Material Girl had brought two-year-old David Banda to the 3 Mills Studios, in Bow, East London, last Friday in what was meant to be a happy family outing.

But things turned sour after Madonna overheard a conversation between two crew members.

One of them asked the other what the baby's name was. It is then claimed that one of the girls replied: "Lucky B*****d."

Our on-set source tells us: "Madonna looked astonished by what was said and words were exchanged between them.

"Madge seemed very protective of her son and didn't want anyone talking of him in such a manner.

"At the end of the day, she's just a mum and doesn't want anyone speaking ill of her family. She looked really hurt and shocked by the comment and let her feelings be made known."

It's no surprise that the culprit is no longer working on the film - written and directed by Ritchie and about London's criminal underworld - which stars Thandie Newton and Gerard Butler.

Our source adds: "It's Guy's film and Madonna is his wife, so they're very much the top dogs.

"It was a bit foolish to speak like that, to say the least, so it's no surprise it all kicked off."

It is not the first time that Madonna - who is also mum to Lourdes, 10, and six year-old Rocco - has come out fighting on behalf of baby David.

Her adoption of the youngster - who she handpicked from a Malawi orphanage last October when he was 13 months old - was mired in controversy. David's father Yohane first gave the adoption the go-ahead and later changed his mind.

As a result, Madonna was forced to defend her actions in a series of interviews for BBC's Newsnight, Oprah Winfrey and America's NBC.

A spokesperson for the film was unavailable for comment and Madonna's rep said: "We have no comment."

Mad's mob flick

It sounds like Madonna is working on her gangster image.

First, she worked closely with Timbaland on hip-hop tracks.

Now the Queen of Pop wants to make a film about her jailbird former lover, one-time New York mobster Chris Paciello.

In the early Nineties Madge was completely smitten with Paciello, who worked as a "nightclub investor" at the time.

She was introduced to the tough guy, who looks as though he stepped straight from a Sopranos script, by her best pal Ingrid Casares and started a passionate two-year relationship.

It all fell apart after he was jailed for murder following a burglary in which a woman was shot dead by an accomplice.

But I can reveal that following his release she has met him three times in the past six months to discuss making a movie about his life with her film company Maverick.

A shortlist of stars has been drawn up for the project including Mark Wahlberg, John Cusack and star of massive American sci-fi series Heroes Milo Ventimiglia.

But one man who won't be getting involved, despite a request from her Madgesty, is her hubby Guy Ritchie. He has told her he thinks the whole project is a bad idea.

My well-placed Madonna source said: "Recording with Timbaland must have given Madonna a taste for gangsters. She's back in touch with her old flame Chris.

"He led Madonna astray in 1992/1993 and most of her friends were unhappy about their relationship at the time.

"She has met him three times to thrash out a deal first when she went to LA for the Academy Awards, then twice in New York, including her most recent trip there last month.

"There's no romance. She is desperately keen to produce a film based on the book Mob Over Miami about him.

"She has always been fascinated by tough guys and loves his story."

It's rumoured Paciello, also previously linked with Jennifer Lopez, has owed Madonna more than £100,000 for over 15 years.

If Maverick gets the deal going, Madonna will serve as an executive producer on the top secret project.

But I can't imagine Guy will be happy. She already sees a lot of her ex Carlos Leon, the father of her daughter Lourdes.

Is she hunting out exes? It sounds to me like she's been bitten by the Facebook bug.

Von Teese : "Madonna inspired me to be individual"

Burlesque artiste Dita Von Teese has lavished praise on Madonna for inspiring her to be individual.
The star has branded the singer "a true style icon", and credits the Material Girl with helping her feel comfortable with her looks as a youngster.
She says, "Madonna is the only modern celebrity who is truly a style icon.
Who else has the audacity to dress like her these days? "She really influenced how I wanted to look when I was growing up, and made me realise that I didn't have to look like a blonde beach bunny or a Playboy model."

Kylie cuts Madonna's Price

Madonna's head will be Spinning Around when she finds out Kylie Minogue has nabbed her fave producer.

Brit Stuart Price was the guiding light behind Madge's Grammy-winning album Confessions On A Dance Floor.

So I'm guessing she won't be too happy to see him switch camp.

It's great news for us though. His Midas touch and her pint-sized charm should make for a magical combination.

Madonna guest on new Annie Lennox album

Annie Lennox's first studio album in four years, "Songs of Mass Destruction," will arrive in the fall. Due Oct. 2 via Arista, the set was produced by Glen Ballard, who previously told Billboard.com, "It's a very intense record. It's very personal to her. We spent a lot of time making sure the music was the way she wanted it."

Among the songs confirmed to appear on the album are "Fingernail Moon," "Dark Road" and "Sing," the latter of which was inspired by Lennox's work with Nelson Mandela's 46664 campaign to curb the spread of AIDS.

"Sing" sports contributions from 23 superstar female vocalists, including Madonna, Sarah McLachlan, Dido, Celine Dion, Faith Hill, Shakira, Bonnie Raitt, Gladys Knight, Pink, Fergie, Melissa Etheridge and KT Tunstall, among others.

The former Eurythmics vocalist's previous set, "Bare" (J Records), debuted at No. 4 on The Billboard 200 in June 2003.

Lennox has yet to confirm tour dates but will appear Aug. 15 at a special performance with the BBC Concert Orchestra at London's Mermaid Theatre.

Madonna faces parenting investigation

Madonna and Guy Ritchie are facing a tough inspection to see if they are fit parents.

The couple will soon be visited by Malawian adoption officials, who plan to conduct a formal interview with the stars, as well as observing them for up to five hours a day over a five-day period. Questions about alcohol, infertility, divorce and infidelity are expected to be asked.

If Madonna and Guy satisfy the interviewers, the adoption process of baby David Banda will be completed.

A source told The Sun: "This home study is a big deal - and Madonna and Guy have been absolutely dreading it. Malawi is a conservative country that disapproves of drugs, alcohol, divorce and cheating. These assessments are very gruelling and many couples don't pass."

Rupert Everett defends Madonna's adoption

Rupert Everett has defended Madonna's decision to adopt a Malawian baby.

The "˜Hung Up' star was forced to battle an onslaught of criticism when she adopted her son David Banda last October.

However, Everett, who starred alongside Madonna in the 2000 romantic comedy The Next Big Thing, insisted that the 48-year-old pop star was condemned unfairly, saying: "I think (Madonna's) been given a really rough deal about it. I think it's outrageous how she has been treated.

"Adopting a kid is adopting a kid. It's great. There's no question that it's better for him to be growing up in Madonna's family than in a Malawian orphanage."

Earlier today it emerged that Madonna and her husband Guy Ritchie will face a five-day parenting assessment from Malawian adoption officials.

Liz Rosenberg on Madonna's documentory about Malawi ?

Pop superstar Madonna has been devoting time between motherhood, music and movies to a new documentary about Malawi. The Material Girl singer adopted son David Banda from the African country in October 2006, and was so inspired by her visit to the country she immediately started filming a short movie about the problems people face there.

Her spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg tells The Scoop, "She's been working on it for a year. Very intense. And profoundly sad - not for the faint of heart. She did an amazing job, I must say." As well as the documentary, Rosenberg confirms Madonna has also been working on new tracks with Justin Timberlake, whose London concert she recently tried to attend incognito before being mobbed by fans.

Eugene Hunz on Filth and Wisdom and Madonna

Speaking prior to Saturday's climate-change awareness concert, Gogol Bordello star Eugene Hutz spoke about his role in Madonna's movie directorial debut as a character called A.K., who is apparently based on his own personality.

Hutz said: "I think [Madonna] was fantastic. She's such a dynamic force. You can always measure a director by how specific he is or she is, and she was very specific.

"She had very energetic visions but at the same time there was a lot of room for me to do my own thing," he told Billboard.

"It was super fun and perfectly respectable, and it ended up being quite a collaborative project," explained Hutz about the movie, which is expected to debut at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival.

Filth & Wisdom lasts 45 minutes and also stars Richard E. Grant and Stephen Graham. It is unclear if Madonna actually appears on-camera.

Gogol Bordello's new album, Super Taranta!, is released tomorrow.

Meighan : 'Marry me Madonna'

Kasabian frontman Tom Meighan was so thrilled with Madonna's sexy show at Saturday's Live Earth concert he wants to marry the singer.

The British rocker admits he got "overexcited" during the 48-year-old's set at the London show, where she came out in a spandex cat suit and gyrated with a speaker during the song Hung Up.

Meighan, 26, says, "Ooh, Madonna's thighs! She reminds me of my old dance teacher, who I used to have a crush on. Who didn't have a huge crush on Madonna when they were a kid? "I'd marry her. If she came for me, I really would."

Madonna is queen of the earth - The Sun Review

Madonna was the queen of Live Earth.

She followed rock greats the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters and even Spinal Tap at Wembley and lifted the crowd to another level. In skin-tight gear she demanded: "If you want to save the planet, let me see you jump."

And the crowd followed Her Madgesty's lead and went wild.

The day's message may have been all about saving energy but the audience threw every last drop of theirs into the night's finale.

Live Earth London Wraps With Madonna Spectacular - Billboard Review

Live Earth London has drawn to a close with a spectacular headline set from Madonna. The queen of pop, an adopted Londoner, turned each song into a show-stopper in a vintage performance. She was backed by a choir for "Hey You" (written especially for Live Earth), rocked out on guitar with robotic dancers for "Ray of Light" and was joined by members of gypsy punks Gogol Bordello for a crazed hoedown version of "La Isla Bonita."

She also took time to thank Live Earth organizers Al Gore and Kevin Wall "for giving the world the wake-up call it so badly needs." The set closed with her U.K. No. 1 "Hung Up," turning a packed Wembley Stadium into the world's biggest disco, before Madonna handed over to New York to carry on the festivities.

Light Of Madge Dazzles - Sunday Mirror Review

Brilliant Madonna blew every one else off the stage ... closing with a finale that was just mind-blowing.

Her Madgesty opened with Hey You, then picked up a guitar for Ray Of Light.

She was joined by gipsy punks Gogel Bordello for La Isla Bonita and finished with a long version of Hung Up.

I got more out of breath than her.

And I hope that I can get away with leather trousers when I'm nearly 50.

The Material Girl wasn't too worried about material things yesterday. Her Madgesty, Madonna, made do with a tiny changing cubicle to prepare for her finale.

My heart went out to Thandie Newton after a link to ex-vice president Al Gore failed. She said: "I've always wanted to stand in front of two billion people with nothing to say."

Madonna leads the pack as climate change turns chic - Guardian Review

...The night, however, belongs to Madonna. If Live Earth is a spectacle as much as a wake-up call, pop's queen bee has the massed children's choirs, dancers and carbon-quota-busting light show to make Live Earth historic.

Her progress from Material Girl to planet custodian has been an unlikely one - not least because it involves Gogol Bordello playing 'La Isla Bonita' at punk speed tonight. But perhaps Live Earth's most potent message is that if Madonna - one of pop's most inveterate megalomaniacs - can give a stuff about the future of the planet, than so can we.

Madonna gets 2 billion feet tapping - Yahoo Music Review

Wearing a below-the-knee puff-sleeved dress, matching knee-length leggings and black patent Mary-Janes, the star of the show, Madonna, took to the stage for her performance of Hey You where she was joined by a choir of schoolchildren.

She then strummed an electric guitar to Ray of Light before bursting into La Isla Bonita accompanied by cult New York Gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello

Madonna thanked Al Gore, the brainchild of the nine concerts across the globe, "for giving the world the wake-up call it so badly needs and for starting an avalanche of awareness that we are running out of time".

She said: "Lets hope tonight's concert and the concerts going on around the world are not just about entertainment but starting a revolution around the world. If you want to save the planet let me see you jump."

The Material Girl singer closed the London event with a blistering rendition of her disco hit Hung Up.

Madonna: "Jump For Earth!" - MTV Review

Madge closes Live Earth with a bouncing, planet-saving set"¦

Madonna has brought an impressive Live Earth to an impressive close, with a huge treat-filled performance.

The Queen of Pop shined like a polished eco car on the giant stage, as she has done for the past 20 years, delivering a set full of planet-saving messages, special guests, swearing and dozens of well fit backing dancers.

Madonna kicked things off with 'Hey You', the specially penned song full of urges to everyone to do their bit, for which she brought out a load of smiley school-kids to provide backing vocals.

"If you wanna save the planet, I wanna see you jump up and down!" said Madonna as she took things up a notch for 'Ray Of Light' armed with her guitar. "Come on, motherf*ckers! Jump!"

And jump they did. Then time for more planet saving.

"I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Al Gore for giving the world the wake up call it so badly needs," she said. "And for starting an avalanche of awareness that we're running out of time.

"Tonight's concert is not just about entertainment, it's about a revolution. Amen."

Then she brought out two of her mates from Gogol Bordello to join her for a rip-roaring, and wonderfully weird, performance of 'La Isla Bonita', which saw the Bordello boys screaming and thrashing their guitar and violin like they were on fire.

And to bring the whole day and night to a close was 'Hung Up', complete with loads of topless backing dancers showing off their six-packs and pretty nipples, disco lights, and some audience participation befitting the giant stadium event. "Time goes by"¦ so slowly!" screamed the thousands of Live Earth attendees.

Top stuff from the Queen Of Pop.

Props to the organisers of Live Earth, it's been something special. Now it's over to you to save the planet. Do your bit or Madonna will bite your legs off.

Madonna Does Her Part to Speed Up Global Warming - Spinner Review

Madonna's white-suited Live8 performance, with its gospel choir, emotional tribute to Birhan Woldu and a whole lotta F-bombs, was one of that event's most memorable moments. At Live Earth, the Material Mom opted for black silk, Spandex, her incomparable decollete and a decidedly cleaner mouth.

A choir of English schoolchildren backed her as she sang 'Hey You,' the environmentally conscious anthem that's served as the global climate event's unofficial theme. Ushering the impressionable kids safely backstage, Madge donned a fedora and kicked out a steamy, sexed-up rendition of 'La Isla Bonita,' featuring Gypsy-punks Gogol Bordello.

Going out in true diva style, Madonna discarded her skirt, hopped on a stripper pole and hustled her way back to the disco, as she and her bevy of nubile dancers performed 'Hung Up' to bring Live Earth London to a sweaty close.

Madonna brings Live Earth London to its climax - NME Review

Madonna brought the UK leg of Live Earth to a spectacular close tonight (July 7).

The Queen Of Pop headlined the international cimate change awareness concert's UK leg at Wembley Stadium.

Madonna's show was preceded by a symbolic turning-off of all of venue's "non-essential lighting" which plunged most of the venue into the true darkness of night, except for the flashes of camera phone and lighters.

Compereing the moment, actor Terence Stamp declared: "Let's not be endarkened by this, let's be enlighteened by this. Let it be the beginning of an adventure!"

Moments later Madonna opened her set with 'Hey You', a brand new song written especially for this event, which was also used as the bridging music between bands all day at Wembley.

The screens showed images of world leaders were transposed with natural disasters.

Quickly the singer broke into the hits, picking up a guitar to perform 'Ray Of Light' as she provoked the crowd by shouting: "There's been a lot of talk about conserving energy tonight, but right now I don't want to hear any one of you save any of your energy right now! C'mon motherfuckers! If I'm playing a guitar, not one of tour feet can touch the ground! I wanna see this whole city jumping!"

She followed this by declaring: "We're starting an avalanche of awareness that we are running out of time. Tonight's concert, and the concerts going on around the world, are not just about entertainment, they're about starting a revolution! Amen!"

To illustrate the point, as NME.COM predicted earlier this week,
she then welcomed Gogol Bordello stars Eugene Hutz and Sergey Ryabtsev for a guest spot in a Eastern European flavoured version of 'La Isla Bonita'.

Talking exclusively to NME.COM Hutz explained: "It's quite a huge rock n roll moment. It's a big gig? I guess so! It just has a great organic feel to it all. The way it came together. Madonna is coming from just enjoying music and it goes from there."

With recent number one 'Hung Up' bringing Live Earth in the UK to its climax, Madonna told the crowd: "This is your last chance to show that you care about the planet," before leading the crowd toward a chant of the song's finale, "time goes by so slowly".

Madonna confirms Gogol Bordello Live Earth guest spot

Madonna has confirmed she is to perform with members of Gogol Bordello.

As previously reported on NME.COM it was rumoured the band would play with the pop queen after they pulled their performance at T In The Park so some members of the band could perform at Live Earth.

Now it has been confirmed that band members Eugene Hutz and Sergey Ryabtsey are to perform with the singer when she plays Wembley Stadium on Saturday (July 7).

In a new statement the band said: "Due to timings of their performance at T In The Park, and recent events, it was not possible to do both in one day, as a result Gogol Bordello have had to cancel their set at T In The Park, and apologise to their Scottish fans. With one member of Gogol Bordello, Elizabeth Sun, hailing from Scotland, they value their support. "

The band are still scheduled to perform at Oxegen Festival on the Sunday (July 8).

Gogol Bordello are planning to make up for any disappointment that their fans may feel following this cancellation.

Madonna sings "Like a Virgin" at the VMAs
Before the Sex book, the burning crosses, the Britney-Christina three-way and African adoptions, Madge was just a 26-year-old girl in a wedding dress. Performing her first No. 1 hit at MTV's inaugural Video Music Awards, she danced on a 10-foot wedding cake in a veil, garters and her infamous "Boy Toy" belt, then descended to the stage for a bout of simulated masturbation. The ensuing media firestorm taught her valuable career-defining lessons: Sex sells, and controversy is fun. It also cemented her relationship with MTV and set the bar for countless outrageous VMA moments to follow not a few of which also involved Madonna.
