ooo that sounds sooo good! lets hope thats what she sings :) x
July 1, 2007 9:26 PM1) La Isla Bonita -- Haven't we seen/heard this one enough by now?
2) Ray of Light -- She already performed this at her last stab at a charity concert, Live 8.
3) Hung Up -- The worst choice of all. This is a completely meaningless confection of a pop song, with no significant lyrical message, and is COMPLETELY incompaitble with the spirit of this event. Seems to me it was probably chosen to remind people that she still sometimes has hits, not to actually convey a MESSAGE, or to enhance the meaning of the event.
I truly hope this setlist is a hoax.
This is the setlist I had been hoping for:
1) Swim
July 1, 2007 11:03 PM2) Don't Tell Me
3) Love Profusion
4) Jump
5) Hey You
I love Hung Up. I think people want to hear songs they recognize. Not everyone there will be a big Madonna fan. I don't think every song has to have a message just because it is a benefit. Her being there and performing for free is the message.
July 2, 2007 1:07 AMI love Swim, Love Profusion and Jump but a lot of people don't know those songs. I don't think singing those would go over well at all.
I am tired of La Isla Bonita though. I would like one of her earlier songs like Holiday or Everybody.
Hi! Altough the only way I have to see Madonna is on the tv because she oesn't to come to Argentina anymore I'm really excited for this event!!! Can't wait for it.. Every little song she sings is like an angel voice that gets trough my mind and makes me go mad... I LOVE HER!! Hope she comes back here soon...
July 2, 2007 1:21 AMWow - what a great set of songs - all with a powerful message and that many will be familiar with. I can't wait!!!!
July 2, 2007 6:39 AMThese will be the same performances as the confessions tour...love La Isla Bonita
July 2, 2007 10:48 AMGood set of songs but what about:
July 2, 2007 11:39 AM1. HEY YOU
2. KEEP IT TOGETHER
3. NOTHING REALLY MATTERS
4. LIVE TO TELL.
the songs are all amazing, but not for the live earth.
July 2, 2007 3:16 PMAll Madonna songs are incredible, and I' d want a surprise for that day!
Ray Of Light again????
July 2, 2007 4:26 PMWhy Not?, Get Together, Nothing Really Matters or Drowned World :(
The Rest of set list it's Ok
the songs are all amazing, but I don't think this is the correct setlist, for at least two reasons:
1º - i don't think she will sing ray of light, because she sang it in live 8. and knowing Madonna like we do, she likes to innovate, so she wouldn't repeat a song in concerts like this ones.
2º - she will pick songs that have something to say with the subject of this concert. none of this songs are conected to live earth.
it's just my opinion. ;)
p.s- madonna would never make the mistake of singing swim, she needs to people listen to what she has to say, she needs that people start doing something about this planet, so she would never sing a song that not everyone knows, like swim...
July 2, 2007 4:32 PMWe as Fans are tired of some songs of the set list but non Madonna fans can enjoy the performance.
July 2, 2007 6:01 PMHow would it be a mistake to sing "Swim"?
Why do fans think she should only sing tired '80s hits?
Why shouldn't new audiences be exposed to her rare moments of genuine lyrical ability, of which "Swim" is a decent example.
How in the world could a piece of crap like "Hung Up" inspire anybody to do anything other than dump an inattentive boyfriend?
July 2, 2007 7:00 PMI don't agree with hung up too, actually I don't agree with any of the songs of the setlist or that she should only sing 80's hits, like I have said on my comment.
I have also said that swim would be a mistake, and I'm going to try to explain why i said that the best I can in english: swim has beautiful lyrics and a great message, but only the fans know this song. if it was for one of her tours, it would be a great choice, but it is for a mega show where not everyone are Madonna fans, so they need a song they recognize, because if they don't, they will disconect from the perfomance, which means, they won't listen to it because they don't recognize it! unfortunatly (this might be spelled wrong) is a natural act for the humans, when people are somewhere to have fun, if they don't know something, don't recognize something, they forget about it, they simply don't care and move on.
July 2, 2007 8:12 PMand if Madonna wants to caught everyone's attention she needs to sing songs with a powerful Message (none of the songs from the setlist have the message i'm saying) but also songs that everyone recognizes. only this way people will pay attention to what she says.
you have to realise that this is not a only fans show, is for everyone.
I really don't see why every song has to have a message. Like I said, the message is that she doing the concert. The concert is about global warming, but none of her songs are about Global warming specifically. So the messages of her songs don't really fit the message of the concert anyway. What is wrong with doing a song like Hung Up that everyone can sing along with and have a good time?
July 2, 2007 8:22 PMbefore having a Message, the most important thing of the show is have songs that EVERYONE knows, not only the fans, but if the songs have a message is even better.
July 2, 2007 8:29 PMwell at the end of the day its a performance and i think that she will chose the best and most suitable songs, either way its going to be fab!
July 2, 2007 11:04 PMI don't understand this comment: "The message is that she is doing the concert."
So, you just show up that's all you have to do? That's lame.
Madonna's problem (and I love her too, but I can be honest about this) is that she spent too much of her career focused on fame and money and greed and popularity. She never really tried to become a real songwriter who writes songs that matters until late in her career, and even then, she still releases her fluffy pop stuff to the masses ("Do you like to boogie woogie?", "Tick tick tock it's a quarter ta two," etc.) to try to keep racking up the hits.
The result: She's got practically shit-squat from her actual back catalog that actually translates to a meaningful venue like Live Earth. A quick look at her number ones shows that none of them are really appropriate.
She would earn so much more respect from me if she would say "popularity be damned" and actually sing some of her later work that's more lyrically mature and appropriate to the venue, like "Easy Ride" or, uh, uh, ... any other songs fit the bill ... maybe "How High," and then afterward she can talk about how her excessive rich-bitch lifestyle exacts too high a carbon footprint and takes too great a toll on the earth.
July 2, 2007 11:06 PMOkay, maybe not Swim (everybody focus on Swim), but I think the original poster's setlist is good. They're all singles, and they definitely fit the day better than La Isla or Hung Up. (Don't Tell Me, Love Profusion, Jump)
July 2, 2007 11:09 PMI would not go on talking about it.
July 2, 2007 11:57 PMIs it so important?
She'll sing, dance and she'll probably, or surely, be the most important star of the whole concert.
I'm just concentrated on watching, and that's what people shuold be focused on.
Good thoughts come alone, without being so explicit in what performers will sing or say. Their only presence will make much for the reason they'll be there for: no more "usa for africa"...that's prostitution.
I somehow do not belive this setlist as well... I think there would be really great Love Profusion, and why Ray Of Light ?? I am really tired of this song as well. it is sang everywhere, everytime and I honestly do not like this song at all.
July 3, 2007 9:14 AMFor example , I would really really love to hear Time Stood Still !!!!!!!!!!!!!
sounds like a really good setlist. looking forward to seeing her.
July 3, 2007 1:39 PMThe main thing is what someone said above: Madonna has no credibility at an event like this.
This event is about CHANGING YOUR LIFE to save the planet. What has Madonna done?
Just last week she flew to NYC for like 5 minutes, then back to London. That's a huge waste. She owns SIX giant houses, again, waste. Her concerts? All those flashing screens? Waste.
Simple living is the key, people. Madonna's not exactly known for that, and her work reflects it. So... she has nothing to play at an event like this. Her songs aren't about saving the world, or the environment. Her lyrics do not inspire ("New York makes me feel like a dork," those recycled lyrics from "Love Song" into "Hung Up," both those songs where she sings defensively about "deserving" the fruits of her greedy success ["I Deserve It" and "How High"].... I could go on and on.)
July 3, 2007 2:19 PMThis is why Ray of Light... it one of her only inspring songs... she have to sing it everywhere.... it's okay, i love Ray of Light... of course she didn't write it.
July 3, 2007 2:24 PM"To maintain her new very light, bright blonde locks that I created for the tour, I fly out to see Madonna every few weeks," Tapp once told People.com during [the Reinvention] tour. "She's a wonderful person to work with."
That quote is taken from an article that explained how while M was in NYC last week her hair colorist flew in from LA to give her highlights for Live Earth. The article goes on to quote him about flying to meet with her in cities around the world during her 2004 tour. Ummmm... not exactly climate-friendly.
I for one would prefer for her to stay home from the concert, not sing, and question her extravagant lifestyle.
July 3, 2007 3:32 PMI guess we have a different definition of great songwriting. To me, it is a skill and an art to write songs that are catchy and that everyone can sing along with. I don't buy this elitist thing that a great song is something only a few people can relate to.
July 3, 2007 5:10 PMAnd as I said before, I don't believe the solution to global warming is for all of us to live in poverty. If you are so against having nice things, maybe you should take the first step, and give up your nice apartment, nice clothes, meals out, and high quality computer you use to get on this site. Are you going to do that? I don't think so.
At least Madonna is taking the time to do something. What are you doing? As they say, no good deed should go unpunished.
Glinda:
What I'm doing is powering my home with wind, not having a car since 2000, composting or recycling nearly 100 percent of my waste, living simply, buying thrift store clothing (100 percent since 2002) to preserve resources and avoid sweatshops, and working for an eco-friendly non-profit.
That's a hell of a lot more than Madonna is doing.
Think before you speak, Glinda. You don't have to give up a "nice apartment," but you do have to power it with renewable energy and shun oil and coal. You don't have to give up "nice clothes," but newsflash: nobody needs $10K eyelashes like rich-bitch Madonna wore on the Confessions tour.
July 3, 2007 6:53 PMJealousy Alert! Jealousy Alert!
July 4, 2007 6:45 AMBravo Bronwyn! Not everyone can be like you, so stop hating...
July 4, 2007 8:13 PMThere is absolutely no reason everyone can't be like Bronwyn.
Down with greed.
July 4, 2007 10:08 PMSometimes still has hits? You have lost your mind, The World chart speaks for its self, Madonna has had more #1 singles since 2000 than ANY OTHER artist period. Her last album had two singles make history by holding onto the #1 postion 22 weeks straight, her last album made history by charting at #1 in more countries than any other artist in history. Her last tour is the higgest grossing tour for a female vocalist ever. Even her so-called bomb "American Life" spent 4 weeks at #1 on the Would Chart. Madonna may not fair well these days on the Billboard Hot 100 in the USA but since it is AIRPLAY driven by payola and 1 company dictates what is played and what is not who really cares. Ob the sales single sales chart in Billboard her last album sored 4 #1 selling singles..Hardly hitless.
July 5, 2007 2:47 AMoh please Madonna owns property which is an investment, yes she flys on airplanes to get from one place to another that plane would be in the air regardless if Madonna was on it or not. YOU have no idea what changes she has made or how many millions she has poured into charities to help thosands of needy children and adults. Madonna is far from greedy many entertainers only use thier fame and fortune on themselves something Madonna does not do! She has helped thosands over the years given millions upon millions to worthwild causes, it sickens me to read insults about her by people who clearly know nothing about her and don't do anything but cry about a person who does try to make a difference with the fame and fortune that they earned and worked very hard for.
July 5, 2007 2:55 AMSo in other words we all should quit working...stay home and save the Earth? I think your crazed Madonna has every right to continue to do her job just as this hairdresser, you seem to forget the planes fly even if Madonna is not on them. Madonna thinks we should work together to find solutions to help save the planet, cleaner solutions but the world will never stop living life, we need better and cleaner fuels. Picking on someone for working and supporting the economy by providing thosands of jobs is not going to change the world. Do you really think the airlines will shut down just because you want Madonna to walk? Park your car walk a while I think you will chnage your mind very fast... Cut off the TV cut off the air, stop using hairspray and other chemicals like shampoo that polute the enviroment, don't judge someone else for the things we all do. The whole point of this event is that we need to find cleaner better ways to do the things WE all LOVE and DO. Not put down someone because they care and wish to use there talents to help out.
July 5, 2007 3:04 AMenvy is a killer, you have no idea what Madonna contributes, by the way after every tour she allows the sets and items to be auctioned for charity, she has given millions to save thosands of lives, she uses her voice to cause debates over causes she puts faith in, and if that makes her a bad person then your mentally ill. I say the thosands of people who have been helped by Madonna would disagree with your views, the thosands of AIDS victims she has helped since 1983, the cancer victims and the children, she has helped THOSANDS and you think you have come close to that by living simply? GIVE US ALL A BREAK.. Saving lives far outweighs your small contribution to the world.
July 5, 2007 3:10 AMBravo Swinta! No everyone can be like you, so stop hating...
July 5, 2007 4:46 AM"The thousands of AIDS victims she has helped since 1983, the cancer victims, and the children..."
Okaaayy?
I'm not sure what the eff you're talking about Joshua. I guess for the "children" part you're talking about the profits from her books going to Spirituality for Kids and her African orphanage. But who are the thousands of AIDS patients and cancer patients you are talking about? Documentation, please.
July 5, 2007 2:00 PMJoshua...
I do walk. And ride my bike. It was in 90s today in the mid-Atlantic, where I live, and I did not complain.
Next you mention the TV, AC, and hairspray. I don't use any of those things. (Just like M, I think the TV is complete garbage.) The reason I don't use AC or hairspray is specifically because of the environmental implications.
And I will NOT back down from my allegation that it is COMPLETELY wasteful to fly a hairdresser across the country. (To be fair, apparently John Edwards does the same thing, and I judge him just as harshly.) Why can't someone else do the cut? (And before you start attacking me personally again, I will inform you -- I cut my own hair.)
July 6, 2007 1:19 AMi know, i would like to hear her old songs too. im not saying that her new songs are bad, im just saying i would like her to show off her old personallity, you know?
July 8, 2007 4:55 AMI really want to know what she sang at the show. She is a severly smart woman. She can figure out how she can help save the planet. I am quite certain, recycling happens fervently in thr Ciccone-Ritche households.
