Jodhpur, Jan 1: After the news of her presence in Rajasthan for a year-end holiday, pop icon Madonna cancelled her visit to Jaisalmer today to avoid the paparazzi and instead spent the day at a 16th-century fort that was once a princely state of medieval Rajasthan in Pali district.

Madonna reached the Rohit Garh Fort, now turned into a heritage hotel, with her husband, son and five other family friends in the afternoon after staying at Dechu village, 150km from here, overnight.

The singer will spend the night at the heritage hotel and is likely to leave for Fort Chanwa hotel in Jodhpur district, about 35km from here, where the super hit movie “Hum Aapke Hain Kaun” starring Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit, was shot.

Fort Chanwa hotel is located in the wildlife protected area where endangered black bucks are available.

The shutterbugs of local newspapers had a tough time chasing the “Material girl” and spent the winter night around a camp fire near a private heritage resort at Dechu.

Madonna was so disturbed with the breaking of the news of her arrival in Rajasthan that all the local transport hired yesterday was cancelled and new vehicles were by her security and local tour manager, a tour operator said on condition of anonymity.

Madonna had arrived in Rajasthan yesterday from the Maldives on a five-day tour of the state to ring in the New Year.

The paparazzi are trying to locate her, but American pop star Madonna has been successfully dodging their prying cameras while holidaying in this city and going sightseeing.

The ‘Material Girl’ accompanied by her husband, son and some family friends arrived in Jaipur Monday afternoon by a chartered flight from the Maldives, sources told IANS.

After spending a few hours at Jaipur airport, getting her customs and immigration clearances, she flew to Jodhpur.

She checked in at the plush Ummed Bhawan Palace hotel here and spent some time before proceeding to Khimsar, over 100 km from here, to spend the New Year Eve at a luxurious resort among the sand dues there.

She returned to her hotel late in the night, the sources said.

However, hotel officials are tight-lipped about Madonna’s movements and plans.

Her visit has been kept under wraps and no one is being allowed to click her photographs.

The Ummed Bhawan Palace, where Hollywood star couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt stayed and where Liz Hurley tied the knot with Arun Nayar, is one of the most beautiful hotels in Rajasthan.

Madonna is slated to go to Jaisalmer, where she will spend a couple of nights, before returning to Jodhpur. She will then go to Udaipur before flying off to the US from there on Jan 3 , the sources said.

Pop icon Madonna and her film director husband Guy Ritchie rang in the New Year in a remote village in the northern Indian desert state of Rajasthan, reports said.
The 49-year-old singer, her husband and five friends drove to a heritage hotel in Dechu village soon after reaching the historic city of Jodhpur from the Maldives by chartered plane, the Hindustan Times said.

The world’s top earning female singer was supposed to travel on Tuesday to Jaisalmer, famous for its sprawling sandstone fort and undulating sand dunes, the reports said.
Rajasthan, known for its opulent palaces and magnificent forts, is popular among Western celebrities who come to see the state’s royal heritage.
Last March British actress Elizabeth Hurley wed Indian businessman Arun Nayar in a traditional Indian-style wedding at an ancient palace in Jodhpur.
‘The pop star will be in Rajasthan for five to six days,’ the Hindustan Times said, quoting unnamed sources.

Madonna, who lives in London, was also likely to visit Udaipur which features a series of stunning lake palaces.
Her personal security guards arrived in Jodhpur three days ago and tight security was in place at the hotels and areas she was likely to visit during her stay, the Press Trust of India news agency reported.
The trip comes days after British newspapers reported that Madonna was to be granted full custody of her adopted son David from Malawi following a glowing social worker’s report that described the star as “a perfect mum.”
The singer has a daughter Lourdes, 11, by fitness trainer Carlos Leon and seven-year-old son Rocco with Ritchie.
She is now looking to adopt a daughter from Cambodia, British newspapers say.
