Madonna's not sick, her publicist says.
The singer raised eyebrows Friday after she was photographed looking gaunt while leaving the Kabbalah Center in New York. But according to her rep, the 49-year-old is the victim of a bad photograph.
"I just think the photographer got a bad shot of her or it was touched up to make her look bad," Liz Rosenberg told People magazine. "I saw Madonna two days before at her rehearsal and she looked amazing - glowing skin and working really hard on her show."
The pop star "may look a little thinner than usual," Rosenberg conceeded, "but she was dancing and singing better than ever and ate a nice healthy meal."
However, some experts aren't buying it.
"There should be questions of whether she's eating enough," Stacey Shulman, a registered dietician who practices in New York, told the Daily News.
And anxiety could be behind the Material Girl's rapid weight loss, Shulman says.
"The body's metabolic rate increases with stress," she said. "It's going to take more calories to meet your nutritional demands as opposed to someone who isn't under a lot of stress."
Madonna is showing signs of strain following several months of drama in which her marriage - and the marriage of late-night visitor Alex Rodriguez - came under intense scruntiny.
The singer reportedly hosted the Yankees slugger at her Upper West Side apartment on several occasions while converting him to kabbalah, a Jewish mystic sect.
Rodriguez's wife, Cynthia, filed for divorce after her husband was linked to the seven-time Grammy Award winner, although Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie have denied allegations of an affair.
Professionally, the pop star is under the gun for her upcoming Sticky & Sweet world tour. Madonna fired two of her dancers during a recent rehearsal and her tour manager is threatening to quit over her tantrums, according to Britain's The Sun newspaper.
"Life with My Sister Madonna," a vicious tell-all written by the singer's brother Christopher Ciccone, was also recently released.
Rosenberg denied that stress is a factor in her client's recent appearance: "She's working hard rehearsing eight hours a day for her tour."
But according to Eddy Sanchez, a trainer at the Upper West Side gym Boom Fitness the singer is "overworking."
"From a fitness point of view, it's a combination of overtraining and not eating right," he said. "She looks like she's a little bit anorexic."
Despite concerns about the star's health, Rosenberg says Madonna is "in a great space" now.

it's blatantly obvious if you look at more than ONE pic from this group that it's NOT just 1 "bad pic". she looks god awful in the whole set of pics taken. yes it is obvious that she is tired and worn out and it is also obvious she has had work done. how else does one explain those lips and those cheek bones? it's tranny face and i've seen that a billion times amongst drag queens who have gotten the silicone injections. she needs to lay off the plastic surgery or she's gonna start looking like cher and joan rivers. in fact in this set of pics with those cheek bones and those lips she DOES look like cher and that's NOT a good thing.

I fully disagree. If you look at pictures taken the day after these pics, you note that Madonna is perfect.
Liz will say anything. Go over to Madonnalicious and take a look at the photo gallery there. Look at pictures taken last year and even the beginning of this year...BIG difference between the Madonna then and now. She is NOT looking good.
As already said, I fully disagree. See the pictures in Cannes (they were taken end May 2008, i.e. a few weeks ago!) and Madonna is perfect.
The only reason why she is to thin today is her excessive work to prepare the tour and of course the stress linked to the totaly unjustified bad press she receives day after day.
Nice to see her "fans" on a "fan website" constantly bitch and gripe over her looks after a series of unflattering pictures emerge despite her intense tour rehearsals combined with three hour daily workouts. I AM a fan...thruly...but i don't like everything that madonna does or simply always say that she looks awesome..hardy candy is a great album but the art producion is the worst ever...i wrote about these pics....i have never seen her looking so bad...too thin,bad clothes and no make up...a lipstik would save her face...let see her at tribeca festival and hope she apperas as glorious as in cannes...
sarah & Mike: Being a fan doesn't mean always being a 'yes' person. I've been a huge fan of Madonna's since the beginning of her career - she was born in my hometown, how could I not be? True fans are concerned when they see her not moving forward in a good direction, eg;, including Britney Spears in her (Madonna's) new tour (just for hype?). True fans are the first to recognize when things aren't going well, eg;, her appearance. Stop the 'fan' bashing.
I will be seeing Madonna at the Traverse City Film Festival here in Michigan. It will be interesting to see how she really looks, but regardless, her appearance here is exciting and I'm looking forward to it and the festival - it's a beautiful town!

It's been a tough couple of months for Madonna. But she will be okay. The tabloid thing about A-Rod and her brother's book is dying down now.
That's one good thing about the tabloids, they have a short attention span. Soon they will be on to someone else.
I know it's hard to take, but I think she was write to not say too much. The tabloids are like bullies in school. If you let them know they bother you, they will pick on you more. It's best to ignore them and eventually they will go pick on someone else.

I think it's petty to make comments about how she looks either when she's going to and from rehearsals (I'm a professional dancer and it's absoutely ridiculous that she would put on makeup and do her hair, just to sweat it all off... the point is...she looks haggered and tired and most definitely had something done to her cheeks and lips. i've been a fan probably longer than you've been alive and longer than a great deal of her fans. i've been a fan since day 1. the type of fan i am is not in question. i've been a loyal fan for 25+ years and i've defended her to the end and will continue to do so. 99.9% of the music i listen to IS madonna and nothing else. i have over 100 madonna cd's, every dvd and 160+ gb of files on my pc. hell i have an external HD that is devoted to ONLY madonna files. i'd say i'm a bit FANATIC in regards to madonna. HOWEVER that doesn't mean i can't have the balls to point out the obvious that she looks awful in that set of pics. it's more because of whatever injections/work she had done to her cheeks and lips than anything else. i would expect her to look tired and weathered with all the work she's been doing. i like her looking REAL and not like an alien. save that plastic surgery shit for cher and joan rivers and priscilla presley. let them look like the overdone plastic surgery victims..NOT madonna. that's the point here...that with all the stress and such going on in her life right now and the whole "midlife crisis" happening...i pray she doesn't get more work done.

quitcherbichinn - I totally agree with you 100%. I too have been a Madonna fan from just about the beginning and have lived part of my life defending her and I adore her like crazy. It is sad to read peoples comments under those pictures saying that she looks so beautiful blah blah! If it's plastic surgery, she needs to stop. I personnally, do not think it is. If it is from rehearsing and just all the extra calories she is burning, she needs to up her calorie intake. That's common sense. Madonna has always been a picture of health with the most amazing body ever. But this isn't just her face. Look at her arms, her whole body. Her daughter looks bigger then she is and how old is she? It's not that I am not a fan, you people who said that are just ridiculous, I am concerned for her, that's all. And I do hope whoever it was that will see her in Michigan, will see a healthy Madonna.

I agree with mike, why should youu have 2 wear make up or get dressed up when you go out? After rehersals who can be asked be honest! I dont think there is nothing wrong with the way she looks either though I do think she is on the skinny side, but then again she is putting on a tour so.... As for the plastic surgery to me I cant see it, when your talking to someone your lips look bigger or at least mine do and as for the face thats just weight loss nothing else.
And everybody should know why she dresses like shit to stop paparazzi taking photo's, she said it in a interview. Though we all know IT DONT WORK HAHA
Mike: Sorry for the misunderstanding, what I was referring to in my previous comments regarding Madonna's appearance was her physical state not her clothing or the fact she wasn't wearing any make-up. That part is totally understandable. Yes, training and preparing for a tour is physically grueling but it looks like she's been taking the training and dieting to the extreme - she never looked like she does now before any of her previous tours. She's always projected a healthy glow but not now. Her fans are concerned.

It's none of ANYBODY's business what Madonna chooses to wear, whether she washes her hair, etc. Just because she's a celebrity, doesn't mean she has to look fantastic 24/7, for 'Zerotherm', 'Danielle' or anyone else on this post who seems to be obsessed with how she looks. I don't care if you are a fanatic fan or not (so sorry I dented your fragile ego's, questioning your FAN status)
It's not up to you to judge how Madonna dresses, looks, etc. And Zerotherm, I am calm, I'm just amazed at how trivial some of the responses are on this site. Just as a closer, this isn't about supporting everything Madonna says and does, it's

I think in all honesty, we haven't seen as much of her in the papers during previous tours. She's been under the magnifying glass for the last few months, because of all this drama in her life (most of it fabricated of course). I agree she doesn't look as put together as usual, but part of me thinks she is going out of her way to not look good, to keep the paparazzi to a minimum. (not that it's working, they are just sensationalising the 'sick' thing, because her pics look bad these days). I think she'll be fine, afterall 'Face it, she's Madonna...'.

And lately her cheeks and yeeeah maybe lips too just look soo unnatural and it looks very sick to me, and seriously I do think that she had some plastic there...it's just too different..

Madonna looks great. But her beauty has always come from within. That is the kind of beauty that outlasts them all. With her attitude, Madonna will remain sexy as long as she lives.
