As Madonna gears up for her 50th birthday on Saturday, she’s hit a bit of a stumbling block. Literally.
After spraining her left ankle the singer may have to postpone festivities.
She had planned to host a lavish do for around 50 select guests at her country estate in Wiltshire, but the Material Girl is now set to push back her party by nearly two weeks.
Guests will include officials from Malawi who helped with her adoption of David Banda. We’re told: “Plans are very hush-hush but Madonna is definitely going to celebrate her milestone in style.
“Unfortunately not everything has gone as expected as she’s had many other things on her mind – not least rehearsals for her Sticky And Sweet tour. On top of all the stress of this, she twisted her ankle over the weekend. She views this as a sign that perhaps she should postpone the formal birthday bash and play it by ear instead.
“Madonna now reckons it’ll go ahead during a three-day break in the tour towards the end of the month, not next weekend.
“Guy wants it to be traditional and British. He has already ordered crate-loads of real ales.
“He’s also arranged for a folk band to play and the people invited are all pretty old school – Gwyneth Paltrow, Stella McCartney and Trudie Styler – basically friends Madonna’s known for years.
“Everyone else will be immediate friends and family, plus a few people from Malawi that Madonna will be flying out. A few of her Kabbalah associates are also expected and Madonna’s made sure that only Kabbalah water will be served.”
The singer was pictured in New York at the weekend with a bandaged left ankle.
While the build-up to her birthday may not be ideal, she will be celebrating in part on Saturday.
After a small, family get-together, she is expected to hit the town for a few glasses of pink bubbly.
Let’s hope she’s got rid of the Tubigrip by then.
