Madonna decided to cancel a series of tour dates in Australia, according to Sydney Sunday newspaper, The Daily Telegraph. The gigs pulling-off reportedly happened because of current global crisis which resulted on the high-price tickets people can’t afford to buy.
A source said as quoted by the publication, “It got as close as anything ever gets. Madonna was coming to Australia, the dates were resolved, then economics got in the way.” In line with the source’s statement, local promoter Michael Coppel stated, “Everyone is feeling their way. The risk level has gone up substantially.”
Beside Madonna, Neil Diamond, Paul McCartney, Eagles, Green Day, and Metallica also scrapped their Aussie tour dates due to the economic crisis. “It’s unknown territory at the moment. A lot of tours went on sale before the dollar crashed. We are only starting to see the affect of the economy on the tour industry,” promoter Michael Chugg explained.
Madonna has wrapped up her “Sticky & Sweet” tour on November 26 at Miami’s Dolphin Stadium. From the 28-date roadshow, kicked off on August 23 at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium, she earned a total of $91.5 million profit with over $207 million in ticket sales.

This is just to show that for Madonna it isnt about the music anymore; its all about the money; if i was an artist and had die hard fans in beautiful Australia, id have 5 or more tour dates there on all my tours! She is ungrateful and cares nothing about her fans, what disrespect! NO to Australia because of economics! After all the albums her fans there have bought, all the number 1s they have given her, more than Kyle! she still finds excuses to ditch going there; i have to say as a Madonna 4 many years im very dissapointed and hurt at the way she’s been behaving and treating us her fans, she even arrives late to all of her shows and its more than an hour sometimes,Dont forget your not 25 anymore maddy, now more than ever as you grow older you need stronger fan support. Madonna dont forget that we your fans are loyal to you, therefore you should be loyal to us!
Yeah, no, she had no intention of coming to Australia.
The Daily Telegraph, which just panders to anybody and is not exactly a highly respected newspaper down here, are stupid for making up all this.
When someone big tours here, we know months in advance. Not that Pink is that big, but her tickets have been & sold out already and shes not here till April.
Even big gay Kylie gave us 3 months notice.
So no, someone like Madonna wouldn’t be taking time out of her tour, or from her court dates from the divorce, to say “Hey, after my tours completely finished I’m going to restart it for 2 Australian shows”
She had no intention of coming here at all this tour so as I fan I flew over to see her in New York AND LA.
For Confessions I saw her in Japan.
So instead of whinging in hindsight just go see her in another country.
It’s far more impressive than seeing someone in your home town when you’ve spent thousands of dollars proving how much of a fan you are.
Well, between you, me: I think that Madonna is saving up her tour dates in Australia for her next world tour. This way here, she’ll be guaranteed immediate sell-out ticket sales. Like the way she’s playing Mexico and South America now after like 15 years. She’ll more than likely play Japan too. Madonna is making them wait. If she plays Australia now with Sticky and Sweet, they’ll be nothing left to look forward to when the tour dates are announced for her next tour. She’s already tackled South America with S&S. She’ll save her next tour for Australia.
Shardy
Lets keep it in perspective, like I said 1 tour out of 8 in her career she has visited Australia. You say we can fly to see her- well lets see- $2000 ticket to NY, plus accomodation, etc I would be looking at $3500 at least!! I would not complain at ticket prices if she came here, in fact I paid over $600 for 3 shows in 1993 which today would be $1200.
Yes I agree this a mad fan site, I am a huge fan but just dissapointed again.
Love 2 u all xxx
um…yeeeeah
and if M were to have gone thru with the Australian tour deal,
there would be folks on this thread complaining about the high
cost of the tickets for the Sticky & Sweet tour
if Australians want to see M that bad…
then they can fly to see her,
if not…then they will have to wait the DVD
People stop hating!! This is a fansite remember?? Madonna is not the only one not coming to Australia. Because of the economical crisis tickets would be very expensive and Madonna did not want that for her fans. Instead of bashing her try to understand the situation. I feel bad for Australia but that’s the way it is. I’m getting really tired of reading negative s**t. Stay away then
Well, the economy excuse is so lame when the tour’s financial figures are checked, definitely not an excuse… plus isn’t she always bragging about how hard-working she is?
I wonder what really happened there…
The Venezuelan press (in the same fashion as the Australian) announced dates for Caracas during the South American leg, and it was later never confirmed…
They need to get their facts right, she still has South America to tour, it will gross in excess of $270m that’s the highest ever by any solo artist
Yeah there is ALWAYS an excuse for M not coming to australia. Last time for confessions she didn’t come here cause she had to get her kids back in school now its the economy. I have been a die hard M fan since 1983 and out of 8 world tours she has come here ONCE!! Yes I had front row seats at the girlie show 2 nights in a row,she was mesmerizing.
M I love u but AGAIN you disappoint the m fan in me! xx
