Madonna is to make a movie about Wallis Simpson and her affair with a former Prince of Wales which sparked a royal crisis.
The pop superstar, 50, is keen to play the American socialite after becoming fascinated with her story.
Wallis’s romance with the future King Edward VIII caused a scandal — just like Prince Charles’ with Camilla.
Madonna told pals she “sees similarities” between herself and Wallis as they are both feisty Americans who married Englishmen and caused a stir.
She is said to have covered a wall of her London house with articles about her and even wrote to the Queen — Edward’s niece — for permission to make a movie.
Madge put the plans to one side during her divorce from film director Guy Ritchie, 40 — but is said to be keen to pick them up again this year.
A pal said yesterday: “Madonna sees Wallis Simpson as her next big film project.
“She is as passionate about it as she was about playing Eva Peron in Evita. ”
“Madonna said she is fascinated about this American commoner who refused to conform or offer explanations for her tangled love life.”
“It was all systems go until the divorce, when everything was put on the back-burner.”
“When things in her life settle down this year, she’s keen to get things going again.”
Edward and Wallis’s love story was called the greatest of the 20th century.
He said in a radio broadcast as he abdicated: “I have found it impossible to carry the heavy burden of responsibility as king without the help and support of the woman I love.”
The pair, who were made Duke and Duchess of Windsor, lived together for the rest of their lives in France and the US.
Edward’s brother — the Queen’s dad George VI — took over as king.

I’m not sure why Madonna still thinks she can act. She seems to only pick roles that she feels personally comfortable with – that’s not the mark of a true actress. She needs to stick to music – the art form she’s most comfortable with. Acting is not her forte.

if done correctly, and madonna really gives it her all as an actress (not madonna playing an actress playing wallis simpson) it could be a really interesting, if not great film.
Well i personally really want to see Madonna in another film again! Ok she hasn’t made great films but shes also been in some good ones too that suggests that providing she gets a good role well suited for her, she’ll shine. Just look at her in Susan, Who’s that Girl, Dick Tracey, A League of their Own, Dangerous Game and Evita? She has acting capabilites that people don’t give her credit for!

I agree. She still has her moments in cinema. In “Dangerous Games” she simply nailed it. They say parrots talk more as they get older, so maybe there’s much more to come!
ummmm, Filth and Wisdom was horrible. Yeah there was a little message, but it had a “home made movie” kind of feel to it. In my opinion, wasn’t professional at all. So… Will Madonna prove us wrong with this idea that she can actually be a good director? I really doubt that… Please don’t attack me, I love Madonna and her music, but when it comes to movies… It all speaks for itself…
Filth and Wisdom was a cute little independent movie. It’s pointless to compare it to some big budget Hollywood movies. It was well written and directed, far from flawless but still better then most movies she acted in.

I think this is the “lovestory based on a true story” which she talked about as her next film as a Director, not as an actress. She talked about the storyline as “a girl who becomes obsessed with a legend about a famous couple, and that it’s about the cult of celebrity and that it’s not what it’s cracked up to be… etc…”
