What a Great way for an artist to become 51,
Having the world’s third biggest selling album of 2008, with more than 4 million copies sold worldwide. The sales of number one and two albums were only slightly higher. Around one third of Hard Candy sales were in the USA. Even though I must add that, the existing data of 3.5 million is outdated because it dates back to few months after its release and since then thousands more copies have been sold. Those numbers need to be updated. However when you compare Madonna’s record sales with that of other so called top acts, Madonna’s international record sales continue to be far better than other artists and in the US despite being practically banned from the radio, she is doing very well and in fact better than most.
As for concert ticket sales are concerned. For a concert that has been underway for a little more than a year, and is due to be concluded next month, Madonna’s S &S tour is the highest attended and highest earning concert by any single act ever and will probably become one of the top 3 bestselling concerts by an artist or group ever.
I found Hard Candy and American life two great albums that did very well under the existing circumstances of being practically banned from the US radio. America does not take kindly revolutionary or strong and bold in your face women. That was what those two albums were all about. Although I liked 4 minutes, despite its record breaking success, it was not one of my favorite tracks from Hard Candy. Beat Goes On, Candy Shop, devil wouldn’t recognize you, Give it To me, Miles Away, Dance 2 were my favorites. No need to sing the blues for Madonna, because She knows exactly what she is doing.
your exactly right, I like your take on American Life and Hard Candy, those albums are brillant. American Life is the modern day folk album and people didnt get that, and Hard Candy proves that it doesnt take much effort on Madonnas part to be able to make one pop song right after another and make it seem effortless, Whitney Janet Mariah Cher Celine all wish they could do that.

Madonna is the ultimate cultural icon/ cultural worker, she works everybody whether they are aware of it or not.
So go back to the US radio playlist and study it hard and close. Because if you listen closely, even when Madonna’s song is not on the list, she is still very much present. Britney, Rihana and all other divas and wannabe divas have attended Madonna’s cultural school. They are Madonna’s students.
