…don’t make big thing out of this… it’s just that I didn’t know whether I’ll be in the mood to go for a gig on Thursday evening so I didn’t want to buy tickets in advance … it’s in the middle of holiday season, I just came from greek islands and I’ll be heading for Spain next week … sorry Madonna…
7,000 tickets at about 110 euros per ticket is only 700,000 euros TOTAL. If you deduct the local promoter’s cut and the stadium’s cut and the cost of advertising – assume that’s at least 200,000 of the total – I’m pretty sure the remaining 500,000 euros is not nearly enough to ship that whole stage in from another country, built it, perform the show, break the entire thing down, and then ship it out again. It probably wasn’t even Madonna’s decision – most artists have a ‘guarantee’ per show, regardless of how many people are in the audience. It was probably Live Nations decision and it’s probably in their deal that if tickets don’t reach a certain level, the show has to be canceled. It’s just business. Anybody buying a ticket to such a huge show should anticipate a cancellation if they only sell about 15% of the entire stadium. And it happened with Michael Jackson there too – so fans shoulda known it MIGHT happen.
Thanx for that blog. It is extremely interesting to read it. I like everything connected to that matter. Hope to read more soon.
Great, Madonna, soon to be 51, mother of four, the girl from small town Michigan, defied all the odds of the business and is well on the way to add at least another 100 million to her and live nations’ bank accounts.
I would say good for her. She is touring while she has the energy to do so. Who knows what tomorrow brings, but she can always make another great record she always has. Isn’t it funny how even the haters always want to know what Madonna is up to??? I think Madonna rules over them too.
of course she rules!
No disrespect to anyone, but Madonna’s shows are not cheap. Nothing is for free, so why should Madonna shows be? Most tickets for that show were in fact sold out, but if the cost and profit analysis as well as logistical problems does not justify the end, If it was up to me I would cancel a show too.
Venues do not always have to be completely full, they do not always get full and it is not possible for anybody to fill all the venues any way due to seating and security regulations of each state or country.
If you want to get a good picture, you should put Madonna’s numbers against all other major touring artists. She has the most expensive tickets and sells the most tickets among all artists, and this is just the extension of a tour that has gone down in the history as the best selling tour by a female artist ever and one of the all time top selling tours by any artist (band or single act)
I have a friend who works at the Dutch concert origination agency. In the Netherlands, we have a big concert market. This year, there has not been a great concert agenda for big venues and acts like byounce struggle to fill up the smaller venues.
It is great to see Madonna earning back her contracts’ worth and more, setting records once again, earning back the settlement that she paid out to that no good ex husband of hers. He was not an English gentleman after all.
M doesnt give a shit about anyone except their money.
Mariah had to stop her unemancipated tour because right after its start. Oh well she doenst count any way, she was never a live act.
All Mariah ever was: an over processed screaming hip-hop/ R&B recording personality who walked around in the glittery short dresses like the streetwalkers. She never had a sense of style anyway. Madonna on the other hand made her own styles, she looked and still looks great in her lace bras and leggings as well as her designer clothes.
To the haters,
Madonna does not cancel a show come rain or shine unless there is a good reason to do so. The show was already sold-out, but it had to be cancelled because of unforeseen logistical and organizational reasons.
Did you see the snapshots of her concerts, in Finland, Norway, and Russia? When was the last time any act could pull such audiences the way she still does? Only Madonna can pull such crowds come rain or shine. She is a only living Goddess and we love her.
show was cancelled prob as a result of the stage collapse a few weeks ago, so they are one stage set down and was no time to get it set up in time! I was supposed to go and had flights booked etc. but shit happens!! I love her and will see her in another town. do feel sorry for fans in slovenia, but honestly, give her a break guys or get off a fan site!!
I’m so disappointed for the Slovenian fans! Your country is gorgeous and you are the sweetest people. Even though I think Madonna is a bitch, I’m sure the cancellation is more than just her being a whiny cow. But, I agree that cancelling so close to the show date is completely disrespectful to the fans.
and what do you know you bloody hater
Probably more than you, you lovely twat.
She should play Vatican City.
M has to rest up for the big jew fest finale of the tour.
Miss Madonna need sleep up on cherry moon pop hill.
whatever the reasons are, cancelling a concert 2 weeks before the concert takes place is disrespectful.
which unforseen logistical problems, when the tour is planned 6 month ahead??? it´s just a lame excuse.
back in 1993, a girlie show concert was cancelled due to logistical problems ( it´s always the same excuse)in frankfurt/germany just 2 days before the concert took place.
And by the way, many Slovenians often go to nearby countries (Italy, Austria) to see their idols, since major artists often skip the small country of 2 million people for fear of poor ticket sales!!
Well, she is not the only one who has cancelled shows in Slovenia, other major artists have cancelled shows in Slovenia before!! But I have to say that if she sold 7,000 tickets, she should perform to her 7,000 Slovenian fans!! That was rude!!
that’s right, u got it.
back in 1993 she canceled the show in frankfurt because the stage was too great to be mounted in a day’s time (the show was sold out when it was cancelled!).
now, the point is, the 2009 shows were released in february, and tickets went on sale on february. everyone knew which shows were sold oud and which not.
so, even organizers knew how many tickets were sold for the lubjana concert.
was that amount too thiny for M?
OK, then cancel the show immediatly, as it happened for manchester.
or move the location to a smaller stadium.
was not important the number of tickets sold?
(rememberign in udine she performed in front of 28,000 – and the stadium contains 40,000 seats). then which are the “unforseen logistical problems”?
come on, there were bunch of other roads to follow (cancelling the show back in april, moving it to another location, holding it the same despite poor sales…)
the cancellation just 2 weeks before the gig is totally unrespectful.
for slovenja, for lubjana, for fans.
it’s not only the 110 euro for the ticket.
there’s the trip by plane, the hotel room, the counciliation of holidays at work with the collegues, the time spent to organise, and so on.
the cancellation 2 weeks before the gig is offensive.
let’s face it.
saying ’shit happens’ doesn’t resolve the situation, since there were tons of alyernatives that could be followed before.
they showed no interest for fans and for the country, and that’s it.
as for the polite comment
“Then turn away from her, shut the fuck up and get off of this site.”
well, there’s freedom of speech i presume, and there’s even freedom to be a simple fan, not a die hard fan who accepts anything.
they (M, Live Nation…) earn what they earn because there’re people going to concerts.
since we’re treated this way back…
well….
So sad for Slovenian fans, but I am dissapointed too, because Madonna is a posh and self-important,and she will not sing for 7.000fans…why not?…she’s megalomaniac!!!
Några svenskar här? lol!
Ja, mig, från Malmö..
Men bor i Danmark xD
Flyttede til Danmark som 2 åring, så taler Dansk xD
For the ” Fans” that right away turn on Madonna for reasons out of her control relax you guys need to calm down there’s no need to call her a”Slut” whats up with that? Does that make it right? You guys praise her one day and then something wrong happens and you burn her at the stakes….so wrong!!!!
i don’t consider it so wrong.
she’s under contract with live nation.
she’s partner to live nation.
surely it’s not out of control the cancellation of a show.
the fact is, there’s no respect at all for fans.
was the concert cancelled months ago, ok.
2 weeks before, when everyone has already planned the trip, holidays ecc, is such a bad thing.
i’ve always been a fan of hers.
but there’s more to life than this.
there’s the job, there’re responsabilities, there’s a whole life.
it’s not a simple cancellation of a show, there’re several aspects involved.
that’s why i – “we”, since there’re bunches of fans “irritated” are turning away from her.
Ok so pretty much for that reason you turn away dont make any since what so ever!!! yea i get it it fucks your whole “there’s the job, there’re responsabilities, there’s a whole life.” thing….
i get that but at the same time… i have been to cancelled concerts 2 days b4 the actual concert and i was pissed and mad and had to figure what to do at that moment but never once did i think to myself “Gee let me turn my back and talk shit on an artist that i support and enjoy” concerts are just one aspect of a singers career… people need to realize shit happends im sure theres other things life that are more important than a concert or a performer that you will never ever meet or get to know on a personal bases… with that being said just enjpy what you have… her music …over all thats what Madonna is all about the music…
that MY opinion just like all your opinion…
Kip,
Then turn away from her, shut the fuck up and get off of this site.
Shit happens. Deal with it.
sticky & sweet is the worst tour ever, no wonder people don´t buy her tickets.
you from Slovenia,right???
that was dirty Sali Carey…
Why don´t deal with ur shit and give us a break…
hah! it’s you Mariah!
for you……but for more than 3 000000 people who are visit the show is not the worst tour!!! and not for me…..i was 2008 in Roma, and i was this year a Milano to,becouse i like this show and i love Madonna! i’m so sorry for slovenian fan!
Darling you are so bitter!! Madonna has always been a sold out and she will always be. The Sticky and Sweet tour is amazing, like everything she does: a big surprise.
You might be a very unhappy and lonely person to waste so much of your energy criticising someone that has spent more than half of her life entertaining millions of people all over the world. If you get on your 50s doing at least 1/3 of what she’s been doing, yes, you can make nasty comment, but at the moment I think you should just shut up.
Best regards.
Eudu
Please guys…!!
That´s not really important, it´s the 2 round, a lot of people are broke, Croatians fans may have see her in Serbia last year…+ it happaned to the greatest artist in history.
+ that´s life, it ´s all about up and down:)
and our Lady knows a lot about this!!
Let´s just celebrate Madonna´s music and art !!
how can u say that’s not important?
2 weeks before the concert…
it means all the money – and time spent to search for flights, trains, hotel rooms, tickets, informations and so on, are lost.
they knew how many tickets were they selling, it’s not an up-to-today fact.
there’s no meaning in canceling a concert 2 weeks before.
that’s outrageous scandalous.
they have no respect for us.
they have no respect for our lives, jobs, money, time.
am totally disappointed.
can’t stand it anymore.
no more madonna for me.
she’s a slut.
no more.
I feel really sorry for u but believe me this show is too expensive to produce…they just can not doing it just for 4000 o 7000 fans…
But if u don´t wanna hear from her anymore it´s ur choice.
I can understand ur disappoitment…
Oh Kip,
And you can’t cancel the room and get a credit toward another flight within a specifed time period? Or did you go with the cheapest, non-cancellable flight? Well, that’s your fault for being cheap then. So mature, you are. She’s a slut, because she can’t perform for you???? Grow up.
i agree with you leslave
exactly what i was thinking!not the first time happens and changes nothing about madonna!let’s celebrate!its a celebration!
loosers…u have madonna coming in your city and only 7000 tickets??? with 3 months notice …
bring her in athens again instead…she recorded 75000 tickets in a month …am sure with 13 days notice she can again have almost 50000 waiting even in august where people usually take holidays
i shoul have go to the Beyonce concert to Zagreb on the 26th March . Im so dissapointed but i muss see the positiv thing on it.but what?
P.S. im mean should
p.s. i heard that the concert in Buenos Aires (DVD) is gona be on the 20th August on a german tv programm availabel to see it dosent cost anything and you can see Madonna performing better!
yeah!!!give it up for greece!everybody loves madonna here!
NOOO!!!!! Argh!
she’s a bitch
am no more buying anything from her
she’ a slut
am launching a boycott-madonna campaing
calm down..
its not madonna’s fault.
Oooh how touching….then good luck with your “boycott madonna campaign”… let me know then how many ppl joined that group n how succesful its gonna be…. :-D
Bye Bye, Kip.
If you are that easy to lose as a fan,
I saw GOOD RIDDANCE to you.
Hahaha,I have lost count of the number of times that Madonna has been boycotted for one reason or the other. Madonna is boycottproof. It is funny how the more some haters try trash at her, the more popular she gets. Madonna has already broken all the records in her field, so she is really beyond you and your boycotts.
I am from Slovenija and we are soooooo disiponted!
They even sad two days ago that Madonna show will be taken place!
Now they are saying that they sold only 7000 tickets
Soooo disiponted!!!:((
Sorry the information that they sold only 7000 ticket was disinformation.
The lokal compeny who was inCharge of Madonna concert Lupa promotion sad that they sold 25 000 tickets
unforeseen logistical problems or only 4000 tickets sold.
I heard 7000 lol
You know what, if you people wanted Madonna to play, you should have bought more tickets. How can you complain, when your country didn’t even buy enough tickets to make the concert worthwhile? It costs money to ship/setup/pay the crew and dancers and if there aren’t enough ticket sales, it just doesn’t make sense to do the show. Deal with it.
4 cancellations in one tour..this is the most in a while!
thats wrong..
4 cancellations for madonna, who never cancelled shows..
and the one cancellation was because of the stage collapse..it doesnt count
