Madonna wants to take her children to Auschwitz so they can “see how lucky they are”.
The singer thinks a visit to the famous concentration camp will be “life changing” for Lourdes, 12, Rocco, 8, newly adopted Mercy, 4, and David, 3.
The 50-year-old star – who is a devout follower of Kabbalah, a mystical religion based on Judaism – is expected to make the trip when her she takes her Sticky and Sweet tour to Poland later this month, and has already asked her staff to organise it.
“It won’t be an easy trip but it is an ultimate life affirming experience, and one Madonna – because of her strong Kabbalah beliefs – does not want to ignore. She wants her children to appreciate how lucky they are and to learn about mistakes made in the past,” an insider said.
Auschwitz was the largest of Adolf Hitler’s concentration camps built when the Nazis invaded Poland in 1941. It is estimated up to three million Jews and people of other ethnic groups were killed there.
Madonna is also believed to be planning to take the children to see the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem.
“The Wailing Wall is a very sacred place for anyone with links to the Jewish faith and she wants the children to see it,” a source said.
The trip will reportedly happen in September to coincide with Madonna’s final date of her tour in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Regardless of opinion differences, I find the discussion that is now taking place so great. Obviously everything Madonna does or plans to do is still very much relevant.
Auschwitz is a part of history, a place where horrible crimes against humanity were committed. The victims of those crimes were predominantly Jews, but also gypsy’s, gays, people with handicaps, freedom fighters who helped to fight Nazis as well as plain so called “regular” folks who fell out of favor in their neighborhoods. Although to some that sounds so distance. If you choose to sweep that part of the history under the carpet, it can happen to you too.
There is a good Dutch expression that says: ‘jong geleerd, oud gedaan’. It means that the younger you learn the things that you should learn; the better off you will be when you are older.
The seeds of tolerance, acceptance and respect for those who are different or less fortunate should be planted in children right from the beginning. Prevention and enlightenment early in life is better than wars and resentments later in life.
It is great to see Madonna fans getting her message. Jay is right to imply that Auschwitz is about us (Black, white, yellow, Jews muslims, Christians, hetros, homos and everybody else,) It is about the ability of humans to choose to do grave crimes against each other or choose to understand and respect each other and build bridges.

The extermination of three million people against their will, in sheer terror and horror is completely different than the plight, while still sad, of a homeless person walking down 12th street in abc city or a closed auto plant. I’ve been in Auschwitz, my grandmother was held there when she was 2 year old, she is still alive but her mother and father died there. Life changing my ass, I’m not greatful of feeling lucky at all after being there nor an “life affirming experience”.
