Confession from my own private dance floor: I’ve never been a fan of The Immaculate Collection, despite the canonization accorded it in the absence of any competing career compilation up until its companion volume GHV2 in 2001. In almost every case, I found Immaculate’s QSound makeovers by Shep Pettibone (at the time, Madonna’s go-to guy thanks to his revelatory work on “Express Yourself” and “Vogue”) to be earsores, if not total desecrations, of the original works. The winningly tremulous qualities of her earliest hits were all but obliterated by Pettibone’s glossy remixes, and don’t even get me started on the deadening house beats he used to kamikaze “Like a Prayer,” a song which, like no other song from her first decade, did not exactly want for urgency. The upside of the album was and remains this unique feat: how its obligatory new tracks, the simmering “Rescue Me” and the aromatic “Justify My Love,” are considered by most fans to be among the singer’s best work. Celebration peaked 75 in the US , stayed there for a week and then off the charts. on itunes it enver passed the top 40 and spent most of its life beyond top 80 and top 100 and now top 200. And we don’t need to talk about Airplay, where she remained below within the top 400!—if that u call a successful statistic then u definetely need all the bullshit i’ve been posting so that u get some kind of humilty just like has to!.
And then u make so much noise for the mid week sales report in the Uk for her first 21 k and then 47 k sales when Muse sold 150 k last week!! that is real success!

It is great to have these songs all in one place and lets be very clear this collections will be selling for years to come because it contains the highlights and the best of postmodern in arts and music(video visions, songs, music and style all in one place)

I mean Immaculate Collection peaked at number 2 in the US but it turned out to be one of the bestselling records by any artist anywhere.
Celebration Contain three decade of fantastic work. So it is going to do even better. Mark my words and count the sold copies in few years.
Even with only two new cuts on this album, this album is going to be another international multimillion selling CD.
Because it has a great chunk of digitally remastered Madonna classics if not all. The artwork on the cover is something you could only expect from the Queen of Universe (Gold And Platinum)
Take note, mark my words, this is and will remain the greatest collection record ever. Who was Elvis, Beatles and other losers. Madonna is on Top in everybody’s minds even on top of the haters mind. All her records have done great.
Right now she is not me is playing and it amazes me how Hard Candy is growing stronger in punch as time goes on and now that it is off the charts. Sometimes I think some of the charts are a distraction from the real record.
The only charts I pay attention to is clubplay and club sales charts as well as international record sales. Because on those charts people decide who ends up on top. The club DJs are objective because they play something only if the record can work on the dance floor, if it has attitude and gets people up out of their seats.
to those who missed Hard Candy, I suggest to them to go back and check it out again, Let Beat Goes on Set your body and your mind free. On and on Madonna’s beat goes on.It takes you to the planet camp and back with no regret, but alot of unashamed energy.

Everyone has his or her opinion about what should or should not have been included on this set. However, regardless of that this album remains the ultimate highlight collection ever by any artist. I have never ever seen a collection containing 20 memorable songs let alone 36 fantastic songs. Of course, I would have seen True Blue, I want you, Nothing Really Matters, American Life, Paradise Not for Me, Beat Goes On, Candy Shop and many more also included, but I am not crazy enough to think that Madonna would abandon all of her previous albums by putting everything on one collection.
This album is the ultimate postmodern art product.
i agree. the best videos and songs were left off as well. but that is to make sure people buy the other dvd collections and albums while still giving them a really hefty taste of some of her hits.
and in terms of the directors cut of american life, i’m absolutely sure that it will be part of the reinvention dvd package whenever that comes out as that song and video is really the biggest focus and highlight of that tour.

awesome review. i just wish some fan would talk about the remixes/remastering. i want to know how they sound, which versions they most sound like etc. all the fans talk about is her make-up and hair. don’t they ever listen to the music? this reviewer actually has an ear for all the sounds of the record.

I gave up after teh first par – really self-absorbed.
Ooh I don’t agree. He makes some very relevant points. Ray Of Light is muffled, the sequencing is curious to say the least and I’ll Remember should’ve have been included.

I’ll Remember was on her ballad compilation Something to Remember so I don’t see why it needs to be on Celebration. I still listen to STM all the time. You can still buy it.
I guess the review was interesting if you are an audophile and like all that technical stuff. But that’s not how I listen to music. I listen to music more from an emotional point of view. So all that technical stuff about mastering puts me to sleep. I didn’t see the big fuss about the Q sound on TIC. The versions did not sound that different to me.
Crazy For You, Live To Tell and Take A Bow were all on Something To Remember too…
