Madonna’s new compilation Celebration leaps straight to number one in the Official Album Chart and brings her level with Elvis Presley’s record of eleven UK number one albums, the Official Charts Company reveals today.
No other solo artist can match this achievement. Only The Beatles, with a total of fifteen, have had more number one albums in chart history.
This feat marks yet another record for Madonna, the most successful female solo artist of all time. She has also:
- Spent more weeks (29) at number one of the Official UK Album Chart than any other female solo artist.
- Had more UK number one singles (13) than any other female solo artist.
- Achieved the chart double (simultaneous number one album and single) more times (4) than any other female solo artist.
- Completed the highest grossing tour in history (her recent Sticky & Sweet tour) for a female artist.

In the main comment about this week’s uk chart, Madonna’s achievemtn is not major news or better say the petty James Masterton gives it a “minor treatment”.
He even begins the album summary this way:

There will always be someone who has achieved or sold more than she has, but you know what, who cares. She’s had a career that the majority of people just sit back and aspire to. And the wayq that the music industry is now, no new and upcoming artist will ever be able to equal or surpass that… there isn’t the sales to back it like there once was
Chart success is great, but the greatest thing about Madonna is her focus and determination to keep doing what she likes as well as delivering great works. She is not afraid of haters, and even when she falls, she gets up back on her feet and does her thing (dance and sing)
That Attitude puts her far above and ahead of other artists. MJ became a prisoner of his Thriller success and didn’t dare to do anything new since.
But Madonna evolved and developed. She continued to make great music despite what the haters had to say about her. The haters never had anything good to say about her, not in her virgin days, not in her true blue days, not in her prayer days, not in her erotica days, not in the ray of light days, not in the American Life days.

There may have been a muted reaction to the release of its title track, but that still isn’t enough to stop Madonna’s latest hits collection ‘Celebration’ soaring straight to the top of the Official UK Album Chart upon release. Including 1995 ballads collection ‘Something To Remember’ the compilation is Madonna’s fourth collection of past singles but the first to top the charts since ‘The Immaculate Collection’ back in 1990. Its appeal may be thanks to its wide-ranging brief, its 18 tracks comprising a choice selection of the biggest hits of her career, dating right the way back to ‘Holiday’ from 1983. In total it is Madonna’s tenth Number One album.
I thought he would go emphasazing the fact that Madonna ties Elvis in the UK for second most # 1 Albums, however he says is his 10th Number 1.
Question:
Can we consider this guy a Madonna hater like that Guy that writes in Billboard? or is it true that the Evita Soundtrack is not a Madonna album?. i think it is a Madonna album because she sings most songs there. Its not like Celine Dione and the “Titanic Soundtrack” that some fans atribute it to her althoguh she only sings one track there.
I feel like, somehow, this columnist is stealing Madonna and her fans something. I noted in previous posts he is petty when recognizing her achievements, like the dick from Billboard. Why do they do this? Human pettiness? Ok, the album sold 77,000(not a huge huge number) but anyway it ties her with Elvis, or not?
Who knows why certain writers seem to be completely uninterested and attempt to de-emphasize her success…I think it has to do with envy. You can’t worry why and what others think…so focus on the positive. The fact is a fact and Madonna is now tied with Elvis!
