Madonna’s “Sticky & Sweet” Tour made history as it wrapped up last night with two final shows in Tel Aviv, Israel at Yehoshua Gardens (HaYarkon Park, September 1 and 2). The Material Girl more than lives up to her name, as her tour becomes the most successful tour ever by a solo artist. After playing 85 shows since its launch in August 2008, Madonna’s “Sticky & Sweet” has drawn more than 3.5 million fans in 32 countries and has grossed $408 million, it was announced today by Live Nation, the tour’s global producer. “Sticky & Sweet” is also the second highest grossing tour of all time.
Madonna set an attendance record for the biggest crowds in history in Zurich, Switzerland, where she drew the largest audience ever assembled for a show in that country (72,000). Her Gothenburg, Sweden show, seen by 119,000 fans, broke the record for highest grossing multiple shows in the country’s history.
In Helsinki, Finland, “Sticky & Sweet” sold more than 85,000 tickets, making it the biggest single show by an artist in history for all of Scandinavia.
Other highlights on the tour included stops in Buenos Aires, Argentina (256,000), Santiago, Chile (146,000), Sao Paulo, Brazil (203,000), Tallinn, Estonia (72,000), Warsaw, Poland (79,000), Bucharest, Romania (69,000), and Sofia, Bulgaria (54,000).
“With ‘Sticky & Sweet’ Madonna has proven yet again that there is virtually no limit to what she can accomplish both creatively and commercially,” said Arthur Fogel, Live Nation’s Chairman of Global Music and CEO of Global Touring.
“Sticky & Sweet” broke Madonna’s previous record of most successful tour by a solo artist with her 2006 Confessions Tour, which grossed $194 million.
Madonna’s upcoming CD, “CELEBRATION” – the definitive Madonna collection – is scheduled to be released at the end of September.

i’m not surprised to know sticky and sweet tour is the 2nd higher grosser in history, Madge is definitely the queen, so we couln’t expect less than this.
I’m glad to know Madge’s sons were also involved in this proyect, but i wouldn’t like them to be performers one day. Lola in particular will be constantly compared to her mum and i’m 100% they she won’t be sucessful, if she becomes a singer one day, i’m 100% she would be a one hit wonder.

When Madonna signed a deal with Live Nation, the haters asked whether Madonna could ever deliver or generate that kind of money at this point in her career. Well, now she has done that and more. How many artists are able to generate that kind of money after only within one year with few months of live concerts (80 shows)???? Only Madonna . She did it again.
As far as the contracts go, it does not take a genius to know definition of ‘contract’. Although they are all different qua content, in general contracts are legally binding documents that state the rights as well as the obligations of those who sign it. I haven’t read the details of Madonna’s live nation contract, but from what I have read, she gets to take home the biggest chunk of the profits.
Madonna is worth far more than her contract, and although contacts can be limiting, in practice, in the real world one still needs a base to operate from.
Well, all that Live Nation says is true. And Congratulations to M, for this amaizing tour.
But please,don’t forget this tour is special too for 2 men died while setting up the stage in Marseille, France. We owe to take a bow to them and their families too.

Also, sort of related, I am really uncomfortable with this being considered one tour. She took a massive break in between legs.

This is what counts the most. At 51 the multitalented and multifaceted ultimate showgirl Madonna, managed to pull in these record-breaking numbers with her stage song and dance extravaganza.
Her hard work and no nonsense (dance and sing get up and do your thing/ celebrate) attitude paid off. She choose a direction and went for it/ worked hard for it all the way. That is the biggest lessen and the best example one can give.
While Mariah and other wannabee divas are still busy wanting to be, Madonna was and still is the queen of universe.

Madonna’s new music may not have been on-par with her past excellence but there’s just no one (male or female) who can put on a live show like she can. I do agree with Sticky Sweet Fred, though, that Madonna is probably laughing inside that she charged tremendous prices for her shows and everyone came out to make her even richer. I’m happy for her success but she has no real love for her fans – only appreciation for what they can do for her.

I always get extra energized when I read about people and their successes and accomplishments – Madonna is number one on my list. I’ve been lucky to have been able to see her last three tours (live) beginning with Reinvention in 2004.
