madonna cleveland loves you the rock and roll hall of fame city baby MADONNA TOUR CLEVELAND AGAIN !!!!!!!!!
In a strange way, this is a sort of happy birthday to Madonna fans too. Many grew with Madonna.
So to you guys happy birthday too.
It is amazing how such a basic simple concept turned out to be a highly stylish and fantastic dance song and video. That is what makes Madonna great. Her being able to able to turn simple concept into mega mega art.
back in in 83,
the radio stations kept playing this song called “Holiday”
i remember thinking, “eh…it’s not my kinda music”…
the singer sounds a bit like a cartoon characters voice…
not much interest
o was more into Duran Duran, and The Cars’ sounds
then, i heard the song “Borderline”,
which got much more radio play then Holiday did
i can say i like that song more than i did Holiday,
but still, the singer of that song sounds like a cartoon
then…
i heard the song “Lucky Star”,
and said to myself WOW! who is THAT?!?!
i then see the music video for within a week
of hearing that song…and i thought to myself
now SHE is MY Lucky Star!
it’s been love for the most part ever since then
i remember, it was 1984,
Lucky Star was both in heavy rotation on the radio
here in Los Angeles, and the video for that song
was in heavy rotation on TV
i was riding my dirt bike all along La Brea Avenue
near Wilshire Boulevard…and for 2 long blocks
ALL 2 blocks worth of walls were posterized with
nothing but Madonna’s first album cover, that and
the photo of her grabbing that chain she was wearing
for the inside artwork of her debut album
HUGE POSTERS, had to be well over 50 large posters
i was like woah!, she is REALLY pretty, really sexy,
really…Madonna
the Olympic games came to Los Angeles that summer
all that you could see and hear, was almost everyone
listening to either Holiday / Borderline / Lucky Star
in their apartments, on their car stereos, and one their
Sony Walkmans…while the Olympic torch was being
run down La Brea Avenue on the way to the L.A. Coliseum
ah, memories…
What a sweet recollection!!
“Lucky Star” did it for me, too, but I fell in love with her image (if not her voice) in the “Borderline” video. She was sweet, sexy, gorgeous, cute and original all at once.
haha!
thanx man, Lucky Star did it for me then,
and still does it for me today
Thank you guys for sharing your memories with us. They are beautiful.
When ‘Everybody’ came out, I was teenager, lived in New Jersey, went to school and had a little part time job in Manhattan. At the time, neither I nor most other people knew who Madonna was. I remember the first time hearing Everybody at a club; it got everybody on their feet. I saw a a group of people spontaneously getting into a seemingly coordinated dance move. Soon after, everybody joined in the fun. The rhyme really took over as if they had rehearsed those moves for months. It was an extended dance version of everybody and DJ switched to another songs for few seconds and then came right back to the beginning of Everybody. For about 15- 20 long minutes “Everybody” managed to set everyone at the club on fire. Few months later while looking through an underground record shop in Canada, I saw that 12-inch vinyl and bought and play it at a friend’s birthday party.
I was not into watching TV that much so, I didn’t know what Madonna looked like until like a virgin came out. Her music got me hooked first, but when later I saw her like a virgin video and her live performance from MTV video music award, I fell in love with her royal raunchiness and began to find out more about her. When I saw some footage of her declaring that she wanted to rule the world, I fell in love with her even more. Since then Madonna has become a part of my life. She not only has delivered the goods musically, but she has also been a source of inspiration and drive. I look up to Madonna not only from a fan’s perspective, but also from an admirer’s perspective. I have had many good teachers as well as few preachers, but I learned the most From Madonna. At one point or other in our lives, we all experience falling down or at times failing in one thing or another. The immediate reaction to mistakes is a sense of failure or a sense of guilt. However, Madonna thought me to turn the negative energy into positive. She is not ASHAMED.
To me Madonna used her voice and her music to change the century’s old culture of labeling, judgmentality, discrimination and misperception, gradually, song by song, video by video.
She is one of the greatest artists this planet has ever had.
Madonna taught me to look beyond the cultural, Racial, Sexual, Political, Social and economic class and Religious borderlines.
She wrapped up her messages with love and presented it to the world through songs, videos, dance, style and theatrics.
MY first madonna music was like a virgin……i remember watching the video stunned…
I love this song. So sexy. I still sing it in the shower… by myself of course.
Happy song Birthday to Madonna! Let the music take control!! Oh Madonna you are the last Icon we have left!! Thanks for the add! The Queen is in the house all raise!
Great stuff!
Wow, the start of the most successful career in music, ever. Anyone know what happened to Erika Bell…her backup dancer and former friend?
Erika has been working as an independent art curator for some time but recently I’ve been to one of her performances. She has been singing and what a fantastic voice!
AN ENTIRE GENERATION WATCHED MADONNA THROUGH THESE YEARS….THAT’S REMARKABLE
the one and only true icon!
it’s my birthday!
Congratulations, Happy Birthday.. and a big kiss! ;)
The Start of Madonna’s era in History:)
It still sounds and looks FANTASTIC like the very first time. A simple but very meaningful song with a great beat managed to get everybody shaking it. It did not chart in the pop chart, but it went to number 3 on the dance charts. I am sure it partially contributed to the sales of her multiplatinum first album. I remember everybody loved it. Many still love this song.
“Come on take a chance, get up and start to dance, let the music take you, let the DJ shake you, Music make makes the world go around, it can turn you upside-down.”
