Great to See Bab. again.. Madonna GHV-VOL-3 will still be living well on the Top 200 as the xmas season approches. I was at Walmart again this weekend. There was only one copy left of the DBL Celebration album..on the front rack, in the whole Music section. Mariah latest had the racks over stocked..I even took e picture of it.. Celebration will make a great Xmas gift..give it time Madonna will go GOLD in the US.

I think Guy is brilliant businessperson. He has a sound judgment, good market orientation and mostly on target prognoses/ market prediction.
This art collector’s item has long leg legs. In the long run it will end up one of the biggest selling collections album ever. In the short run it will great business worldwide whichever you choose to look at it.

Go help Mariah cleaning up with her cheap leftover CDS. There is a lot left over and she could use some help from you guys. A CD with all so called “?new?”material, so much discount as well as promotion and still missing number 1. Do her a favor and give her few boxes of tittles. I bet she is crying her mascara off as we speak. She never had anything unique about her and if it wasn’t because of heavy promotion she couldn’t have gone any further than choir line.
As far as Madonna is concerned, don’t give us your conclusions if you are unwilling to give the whole story(contexts)and not just fragments of the story.
For a compilation album, that practically all of the songs on it have already sold millions worldwide, Madonna’s first week sales figures are just great. Number 1 in Europe, Canada and top 10 in everywhere else is just great. When was the last time Mariah had a international top 5??????
On the combined world charts, USA included Madonna is outselling them all by far. That is the difference between an International Mega Star and a local star.
Those who are only locally popular are more bounded by local radio airplay and local promotions. With two million copies sold in less than two weeks, I am sure Celebration CD will be one of the top selling albums of the year and will continue to sell for years to come.
So, although we would have loved to see higher numbers, taking the context into consideration, these Madonna sales figures are still cause for celebration.
I know its all Ive been listening to since I bought it, driving back and forth listening to both CD’s non stop, thats how good they are.
Charts statistics are all very nice but it doesn’t detract from Madonna’s past or future success. The US is such a small part of Madonna’s chart success. Celebration debuted much higher, even #1 in almost all of the other major music markets around the world. What makes money in 2009 is touring. Madonna’s just come off the second most successful tour of all time. Mariah isn’t touring nor is Barbra amd while those ladies deserve their success, if they are interested in making money and surviving in a dying industry, they would be touring and not wasting time and money on promoting an album.
Celebration doesn’t need to get to #1 in the US to prove that she’s an icon and the most influential female artist.

No it’s not, it’s a reality of how the music industry and CD sales are now. When did we ever predict that #1 albums would sell 100,000 copies in the US? The numbers are bad across the board so there are new standards nowadays.

I work in the industry – Madonna’s Celebration sales really are good and it obviously works to her advantage that she has global appeal.
Agreed. My father is an exec at a major label here and is always talking about how quickly the sales of albums have dropped off. He told me just last week by the end of the year or early next year, no single will be released in a physical format. It’ll all be download based, all because of illegal downloading and the dramatic change in the music industry. CDs don’t sell like they used to. Touring is how artists make money now.
Good for Madonna! Most of the songs on “Celebration” are pretty old, so, as Shardy mentioned, coming it at #7 is pretty great. I like Mariah but her new CD is awful and it’s sad that she is more focused on statistics and breaking records than her art. BUT, how awesome that Barbra is #1!!! The original modern-day diva who shows that true talent always prevails. Madonna shows us that time and time again and will continue to do so when she starts releasing new material.
Mariah didn’t reach #1 YET… she has a successful single and will probably have one or two more from that album. That will increase her chances of getting to #1. Madonna’s single however, is unfortunately a flop in the U.S. and “Revolver” hasn’t been released yet.
Also, keep in mind Mariah will probably hang around the Top 10 for a couple more weeks… Madonna’s Greatest Hits CD is destined to fall out of the Top Ten in its second week.
BTW, I’m not a Mariah fan at all, just looking at things realistically.

Madonnna is number 1 in Canada as well as in Europe(2-3 times bigger market than the US market). In the US, Celebration has given her Madonna another top 10 on the album chart and a number 1 on the club charts. So it is doing GREAT. This collection will continue to sell long after Mraiah’s album diapers in the dustbin of the history.
