…Speaking publicly for the first time this week about his troubled past and difficult relationship with his famous sister, Anthony makes it clear the story is not a simple one — as anyone who has ever dealt with an addicted loved one will probably know.
It is clear that Madonna knows about his plight, and that she has repeatedly offered to help by paying for him to go into rehab. His father has offered to give him his job back if he gets professional help.
But ask Anthony whether his sister and their 80-year-old father, Tony, have helped him and he is immediately riled.
‘I’m a zero in their eyes; a non-person, an embarrassment,’ he tells me, his voice rising.
‘If I froze to death, my family probably wouldn’t know or care about it for six months.’
Anthony, who has considerable reserves of self-pity, but little capacity to be honest about himself, says he doesn’t need rehab, which is ‘boring’. He just needs a job, he says, and to meet the son he hasn’t seen for ten years.
‘My family seem to think rehab is some kind of magic panacea for life’s ills,’ he says, cracking open a bottle of his favourite tipple, Wild Irish Rose, a strong and ruinously cheap fortified wine.
He says he agreed to go into rehab six years ago, with Madonna paying for him to spend two months drying out in a clinic in Houston, Texas, for what he calls his ‘supposed’ alcoholism. Perhaps, given that attitude, it’s not surprising it didn’t work.

When somebody is addicted to something and they refuse to try to get better, its better for you to stop giving them any economical support because that’s like supporting the addiction.Also, she has the right to want to live happy, people can not babysit people with addictions, specially if you have already tried to help them. Also people with addictions and no jobs are going to do everything they can to find money, which probably include stealing your stuff to sell it and get some money… I have seen it!! I do feel sorry for him, but I also feel sorry for his family and I think they made the right decision.

I’m a tour guide and work with the American everyday..I talk to them a lot..And I can say they’re lovely people always taking care of their relatives..differently from the Italian..where people are really really cold..believe me..It is true!..

Before I even get into this…
Addiction is the hardest thing to beat. It is NOT like cancer, It is NOT like diabetes. It is the hardest and most difficult disease to get over with(besides cigarettes).
Now unto what I want to say…
How many of you have been addicts? Really how many of you? Have you had an addiction? Have you been homeless? IF you can answer yes to one, let alone both of them, I seriously think you need to keep your mouths shut! And I am being totally honest and not bashing anyone. But to sit there and say Madonna has helped . Her family has helped. NO THEY HAVE NOT! They have helped in what THEY believe in helping is, but what they have done is absolutely nothing. So she gave him money to go to rehab a few times, dad gave him job. In an addicts mind, this is EXACTLY what it looks like, his “big time sis” gave him money to go to rehab and dad gave him a job. Let me tell you all this…IT TAKES A HELL OF A LOT MORE THAN THAT! A HELL OF A LOT MORE! How about just some one caring. Just being with the man, just making sure he is fed, he has a shower, he has clean clothes, he is looked after? How about just sitting there and listening to the man? How about all of that…BEFORE the rehab and the job. And it takes a hell of a lot more time for most addicts, then the average stay at a clinic to over come their addictions. It may take years, before they get sober and fully cleaned.
Being homeless and having an addiction is a serious matter, and something NO ONE can wipe their hands clean of. You all say that people have tried to help him. What is it that they have helped him with? What is it?
What you are all failing to realize is that THIS is Anthony’s cry for help, but you are all to blinded as to what “Madonna has done:..which is crap..to tell you the truth) and can’t see past that.

Yes, there are MANY reasons why people turn to drugs & live an alternative lifestyle… it isnt my job to get them away from such a lifestyle, but to support them once they have made a choice or reached a certain turning point in their lives. It is well known, through MANY statistics that very few actually achieve it. And believe me, its fucking frustrating for many in my profession!
A `stint in rehab`, as you put it, is only a first & minor step. The hardest part is maintaining that & there are many ways to support an individual.
