The Canadian rapper, who opened his UK tour at London’s O2 Arena last night, hooked up with the popstar in 2015 but vowed to keep it secret.
At 30 years old, Drake is 28 years younger than Madonna, who turned 58 in August.
Their romance started before their infamous awkward on-stage kiss at US music festival Coachella, which prompted the pair to have a public fall-out.
A source close to Madonna said: “Everyone in Madonna’s circle was totally aware there was a brief fling between Madonna and Drake in 2015.
“They knew it wasn’t going to last forever obviously but both of them were single at the time.
“There was definitely a massive attraction between them.
“Drake has a track record with older women too so Madonna is absolutely his type.
“They had fun together but kept it strictly secret. Neither of them ever plan to discuss it.”

Madonna graces the cover of yet another edition of Harper’s Bazaar.
Here’s Harper’s Bazaar Argentina, February 2017 issue:
Sources tell TMZ legendary songwriter Bruce Roberts, who wrote “Enough is Enough” for Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer, is reaching out to Madonna to record a track he will lay over the song.
The song shot to #6 on Billboard Dance Club Charts Friday … but the track is stripped down, using only the chorus of “Enough is Enough.”
We’re told Roberts wants Madonna to rewrite and sing the lyrics, stylizing it to express disdain for Trump’s policies. Our sources say Roberts doesn’t want to make this a personal attack on Trump, but rather a statement that he’s taking the country in the wrong direction.
We’re told Roberts wants Madonna in the studio STAT. He will keep Streisand and Summer’s track on the song for the hook. Madonna would be added to the hook as well.
We reached out to Roberts, who has written for Whitney Houston, Elton John, Alice Cooper, and Dolly Parton but he did not respond. Ditto Madonna. But we know the call is in.
Madonna is on the cover of the February Issue of Harper’s Bazaar in Taiwan.

Donald Trump has labelled Madonna “disgusting” after her comments about “blowing up the White House”.
He spoke of his feelings about the singer in an interview with Fox’s Sean Hannity on Thursday night.
The President said: “Honestly, she’s disgusting. I think she hurt herself very badly. I think she hurt that whole cause,’ President Trump said of the singer’s unhinged outburst.
“I thought her and a couple of others. But I thought she was in particular, I thought what she said was disgraceful to our country.”

Madonna is trying to adopt four-year-old twin sisters from Malawi, MailOnline can reveal.
The girls, called Stella and Esther, have lived together in an orphanage for two years.
The 58-year-old singer applied for custody of the girls at the High Court in the capital Lilongwe on Wednesday morning.
The mother-of-four could have to wait up to three weeks to find out if she has been successful.
Madonna yesterday denied she was in the African country to adopt any more children, and insisted she was only there to visit a children’s hospital and her charity.
But Lucy Bandazi, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare, told MailOnline all the paperwork have been submitted and the application was being carefully considered.
‘Madonna has lodged an application with the High Court to adopt two girls. They are aged four years old.
‘All the necessary paperwork is before the High Court and they will make the ultimate decision if the adoption can go ahead.’
After being spotted at the court, Madonna released a statement through US magazine People, trying to quash the adoption claims.
“I don’t think that it served our purpose,” Lauper said. “Anger is not better than clarity and humanity. That is what opens people’s minds.”
Pop star Madonna has denied “rumours” she has applied to adopt two more children in Malawi.
It comes after a Malawian government spokesperson told news outlets the 58-year-old singer had appeared in court and had “filed an application expressing interest” to adopt.
Madonna is currently in the African country, but said her visit was strictly for charity purposes.
“The rumours of an adoption process are untrue,” she said in a statement.
“I am in Malawi to check on the children’s hospital in Blantyre and my other work with Raising Malawi and then heading home.”
Court spokesman Mlenga Mvula had told news agencies earlier on Wednesday the singer had appeared in High Court, applying to adopt two children.
“As a court, we adjourned the matter for a ruling (in the next two weeks). The court will either grant the adoption order or might not,” he said.
