The singer Madonna is receiving a helping hand from ex-husband Guy Ritchie in casting an odd-sounding film about Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson…
Madonna has written the movie with Alek Keshishian, who directed the documentary Madonna: Truth Or Dare in 1991.
W.E. is described as a romantic comedy about a woman called Wally Winthrop.
The synopsis of W.E. states that Wally was ‘named for her grandmother’s passion’ and there are fantasy and flashback scenes involving Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson who, after the Abdication, were styled the Duke and Duchess of Windsor.
There’s a lot of dialogue between the Duke and Duchess, but my guess is that the screenplay will be re-written before shooting commences next year. I’m presuming W.E. stands for Wallis and Edward.
Other segments of the film have Wally Winthrop marrying a pediatrician. She then attends an event featuring items that belonged to the Duchess of Windsor where she finds herself falling for a security guard.
Madonna has several meetings planned this week and next with various actors and actresses. She needs to cast a star name to help boost the budget. In this climate, Madonna’s name alone won’t guarantee a picture will be financed.

Could it be?
Is Madonna making a return to Saturday Night Live?
Reports are that the Queen of Pop will be appearing on SNL some time this season!
She’s apparently set to make her return after 16 years and word has it she’ll likely be performing. Though execs are trying to have her do both, perform and host.

Her dream of singing with good friend Jacko was dashed by his untimely death, but now Madonna is plotting the next best thing – working with his little sister.
We can reveal that the Queen of Pop had a secret dinner with Janet Jackson on Sunday evening.
Over dinner at Butter in New York, the pair were overheard discussing how to honor Michael by “doing something together”. Earlier Janet, 43, and Madonna, 51, had been hanging out together at the MTV VMAs, where they were seen hugging one another.
And when we caught up with Madonna backstage, just after her tribute to Michael, she told us: “Now I’ve finally had a chance to say farewell to my dear friend.
“I can now say I have paid my respects to Michael. That’s why I’m here.
To say good-bye.” Then she added: “And Janet’s performance was amazing – just the perfect tribute to her brother.” Both stars then left the glitzy bash early – narrowly avoiding the fallout surrounding Kanye West storming the stage and dissing Taylor Swift.
Over dinner they seemed to be getting on like old friends.
Our insider reveals: “It was a meeting of two great musical try minds. Madonna was so impressed with Janet’s tribute to Michael that they started talking about how great it would be to honour him by doing something together.
“With that one performance, Janet proved she’s back on top of her game. And who better to join forces with than Madonna? “There was definitely something very interesting being planned between them.”

Britain’s Got Talent runner up Susan Boyle has recorded a Madonna cover for her debut album, it’s been reported.
The Scottish starlet, whose singing became a YouTube hit earlier this year, is said to have recorded her own version of ‘You’ll See’ to avenge her past critics.
“Susan chose it herself – it’s a song she has loved for years,” a source told The Sun newspaper.
“She sang it at auditions for TV shows and music contests when she used to be cruelly turned away by people”.
“At the end, when she was sometimes reduced to tears, she used to say, ‘You’ll See’. And she’s proof she can do it now as one of the most famous women in the world.”
Her debut album is due to be released in November.

The Net has been abuzz for a bit that Madonna will make an appearance at the Video Music Awards in New York next weekend. Even though the queen’s rep shot down that possibility to Marc Malkin last week, we hear MTV isn’t ready to give up. So how might they entice Madge to hop onboard the very hyped show this year? By dangling the M.J. card, obviously.
We hear the VMAs are going to have a “big” Michael Jackson component, and execs are dying for Madonna to pay tribute to the King of Pop, because really, who else can?

Madonna has launched a major charm offensive to get David Tennant and Cate Blanchett to star in her new movie project, Wallis.
It’s all about Wallis Simpson, the twice-divorced American socialite for whom Edward VIII gave up the throne to marry.
Madge sees a lot of herself in Wallis – as a fellow American who married a posh British bloke.
And she has made the movie her No1 work priority.
It is going to be another musical like 1996 flick Evita, in which Madge played Eva Peron. But this time Madonna is directing and producing, not acting in it (thankfully).
She has already taken Dr Who star David out for dinner to persuade him to play Edward.
And she is determined to get Cate to play the young Wallis after deciding against Keira Knightley.
I can see her point – Cate and David would fit the bill well as the pair, as you can see from my mock-up.
A source said: “The final script is now written and the locations have been scouted. Madonna is now trying to assemble the cast and put the finances in place.
“The first scene of the film is an old woman in her nineties living on her own in a Parisian flat. She starts to tell her life story to her housekeeper. It turns out the old woman is Wallis Simpson.
“There will be a song for each decade of her life.”

Madonna wants to take her children to Auschwitz so they can “see how lucky they are”.
The singer thinks a visit to the famous concentration camp will be “life changing” for Lourdes, 12, Rocco, 8, newly adopted Mercy, 4, and David, 3.
The 50-year-old star – who is a devout follower of Kabbalah, a mystical religion based on Judaism – is expected to make the trip when her she takes her Sticky and Sweet tour to Poland later this month, and has already asked her staff to organise it.
“It won’t be an easy trip but it is an ultimate life affirming experience, and one Madonna – because of her strong Kabbalah beliefs – does not want to ignore. She wants her children to appreciate how lucky they are and to learn about mistakes made in the past,” an insider said.
Auschwitz was the largest of Adolf Hitler’s concentration camps built when the Nazis invaded Poland in 1941. It is estimated up to three million Jews and people of other ethnic groups were killed there.
Madonna is also believed to be planning to take the children to see the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem.
“The Wailing Wall is a very sacred place for anyone with links to the Jewish faith and she wants the children to see it,” a source said.
The trip will reportedly happen in September to coincide with Madonna’s final date of her tour in Tel Aviv, Israel.
