Madonna’s $3 Million Diamond Versace Tiara on auction

On March 23rd, online jewelry retailer Bidz.com will auction off a gold and diamond tiara designed by the late Gianni Versace to benefit the Aid for AIDS charity. The one-of-a-kind tiara, which contains over 1,200 diamonds and is worth an estimated $3 million, has been worn by celebrities including Madonna, Amber Valletta and Donatella Versace. The opening bid for the precious piece is $699,000. The Versace Tiara won the famous De Beers Diamonds International Award in 1995 due to the meticulous detail and craftsmanship Gianni Versace put into creating the piece.

The tiara, the star of Versace’s famous Atelier Collection, has previously been held only by private collectors. This is the first time in the history of the piece that it is being made available to the public for purchase. A substantial amount of the funds raised from the online auction will go to Aid for AIDS, a non-profit premier service provider for Los Angeles County whose mission is to provide direct financial assistance and critical support for the necessities of life to those impoverished and disabled by HIV/AIDS. Rumour: Madonna to launch a new clothing line?

Madonna set to team up with designer Christian Audigier for his label Ed Hardy.

Madonna is a huge fan of the label’s iconic tattoo print and skull and heart motif’s, often spotted wearing Ed Hardy T-shirts on her days off. Now she could be set to collaborate with the designer on her own collection. The Mirror is reporting that Madonna has finalised a deal to design her own collection with Audiger (who is also creating costumes for the up coming Michael Jackson tour) while in L.A. for the Oscars last month.

The designs are rumoured to include tattoo printed T-shirts and crystal encrusted bodices. A complete 180 from the ladylike designs Madonna created for her range at H&M – but maybe the material girl is looking to change her style now that she is single again.

Madonna’s banned advert – Ad Breakdown from BBC

THE ADVERT: Madonna, singing Like a Prayer for Pepsi in 1989

THE SCHTICK: The cola wars in full swing, Pepsi wheeled out its big gun – the Queen of Pop – to perform her latest single

THE BREAKDOWN: It was, the TV voiceover promised us, not to be missed. The Material Girl was to put the fizz into Pepsi’s campaign – for a fee of $5m.

The premiere of Madonna’s Like A Prayer in a two-minute advert was notable enough to be reported on ITN’s News At Ten, and ITV ran trailers advertising when it would be shown – 8.12pm on Thursday 2 March, 1989.

But within 48 hours of the much-hyped worldwide premiere, the company pulled the ad, and it was never screened again.

This was because influential church groups in the United States had threatened a mass boycott of Pepsi products, troubled by the Catholic-born star’s ongoing flirtation with religious imagery.

The ad starts with Madonna watching black-and-white footage supposedly of her own eighth birthday party.

Madonna tops PETA’s 2009 Worst-Dressed List

Access Hollywood:

The Material Mom has some haters when it comes to fur.

Madonna has been voted PETA’s worst-dressed star of 2009, according to an online poll at PETA.org.

Joining Madonna on this year’s list were celebs such as the Olsen twins, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Kanye West and Elizabeth Hurley.

“When you see Madonna in fur, you realize why nobody has copied her style since 1984,” PETA commented on its Web site. “We know that she’s on the prowl for a young cub, but someone needs to tell Madge that wearing fur doesn’t make you a cougar.”

American Icons: 7 Decades of Rule Breakers, Risk Takers & Style Makers

In 1984 Madonna told American Bandstand host Dick Clark that her dream was to “rule the world.” Months later she was on her way—her album Like a Virgin skyrocketed to number one on the Billboard charts. She’s been a pop-culture powerhouse ever since, and last year, Sticky & Sweet was the highest-grossing tour by a solo artist ever.

“When I was little, every day after school I would come home and put in her The Immaculate Collection disc and karaoke to it around the whole house.”—Lindsay Lohan, 22, of the upcoming film Labor Pains, re-creating Madonna’s 1984 MTV Video Music Awards performance of “Like a Virgin”
