Premium network EPIX will premiere Madonna’s MDNA tour – an EPIX Original Concert Event – on June 22 at 8:00 pm ET. One of the most spectacular and controversial extravaganzas of 2012, Madonna: the MDNA Tour was filmed primarily in Miami as well as other locations. The MDNA Tour was the most successful and highest grossing tour of 2012 and was seen by over 2.2 million Madonna fans during the course of the 88 sold-out shows around the globe. The concert includes performances of several of her biggest hits including “Vogue”, “Like A Prayer” and “Hung Up.” She also performs songs from her MDNA album including “Give Me All Your Luvin’,” “Girl Gone Wild”, “Gang Bang” and “Turn Up the Radio.” The album debuted at No.1 in over 30 countries. Madonna, along with her seven member band, outstanding troupe of 27 dancers (all clothed in 1500 costumes) and state of the art visuals and sound electrified crowds around internationally with what the Material Girl termed “the hardest but most thrilling and challenging show I’ve ever done.”
“My show is a journey… the journey of a soul from darkness to light. It is part cinematic musical theatre – part spectacle and sometimes intimate performance art. It is journey from anger to love and from chaos to order. There are good guys and bad guys to help illustrate this point. Sometimes I play both. It must be watched with an open heart from beginning to end. I am sure if it is viewed this way, you will walk away feeling inspired, invigorated and will want to make the world a better place.” concluded Madonna in describing the show’s intent.
EPIX CEO and President Mark Greenberg commented, “Madonna’s stunning musical performance and show-stopping moves continue to prove that she is truly a timeless entertainer. We launched the EPIX network with Madonna’s previous tour, Sticky and Sweet, premiering the concert the first night that EPIX was on air. We are very excited to have her back on the network.”
The MDNA Show was directed by Danny Tull and Stephane Sennour. Tull has worked with Madonna editing previous shows and her feature film W.E.
Riccardo Tisci has deemed Madonna “the queen” of Monday’s Met Gala red carpet, and her show-stopping outfit easily bested everyone else’s punk-themed efforts. But let’s take a moment to celebrate the centerpiece of her elaborate look: her derrière. Enshrined in custom Givenchy fishnets, her exposed tuchis even got its own jewelry, a silver crucifix dangling from a chain over her right butt cheek. In case anyone wasn’t already entranced, she even waggled her behind for photographers.
Any celebrity who shows up to fashion’s biggest red carpet with her badonk hanging out is going to be prepared, and Madonna was certainly no exception. Her trainer of three and a half years, Nicole Winhoffer, told the Cut that she made their workouts extra butt-specific during the past week: “I had to make sure the muscles stayed contracted, lifted, and plump,” she explained over the phone yesterday.
Winhoffer first met Madonna while training backup dancers for the Sticky and Sweet tour in 2009. When the tour ended, Madonna asked Winhoffer to stay on as her primary trainer, and the pair has since co-founded the Hard Candy Fitness brand, which includes a series of DVDs called “Addicted to Sweat.” In addition to Madonna, Winhoffer’s clients include Andrea Riseborough and Abbie Cornish. Read on for more details on Madonna’s workout habits and Met Gala tush.
How long did you spend preparing Madonna for the Met Gala?
I knew that the event was on Monday, May 6, so in the week leading up to it, we spent a lot of time on legs and cardio, and particularly on her butt. We kept the room feeling warm, right at 85 degrees, and very humid, to promote sweating, which is good for the skin and circulation and blood flow. I focused on three [specific muscles] of the derriere, and I made sure they were fired during the warm-up, which is about ten to fifteen moves. Then we spent about 45 minutes each day on the toning session, which also focused on legs and inner thighs. We also did lots of cardio, about 35 minutes. We really really tried to burn fat and make sure the skin was tight. read more →
Madonna will be honored with the Top Touring Artist award at the upcoming Billboard Music Awards, an achievement earned by the worldwide success of her MDNA tour.
The sold out 88-date run was 2012’s top-grossing tour with $305 million. It’s the pop icon’s latest chart landmark in a career full of them, including records for Hot 100 top 10 singles (38 of her overall 56 Hot 100 hits) and Dance Club Songs No. 1s (43). Her “MDNA” album bowed at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 — her eighth trip to the penthouse — with sales of 359,000.
The 2013 Billboard Music Awards will air Sunday, May 19 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC, live from Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena. “30 Rock” alum Tracy Morgan will host, with Don Mischer producing.
Madonna will take the stage to accept her award, with superstars from Prince to Taylor Swift to Lil Wayne set to perform. Other performers joining the ceremony include Nicki Minaj, Bruno Mars, Miguel, Justin Bieber, Pitbull, Christina Aguilera, Selena Gomez, the Band Perry, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Chris Brown, Ed Sheeran, Akon, Ne-Yo, David Guetta and Icona Pop.
Madonna sold an abstract painting by French artist Fernand Leger for $7.16 million on Tuesday to raise funds for girls’ education projects in Afghanistan, Pakistan and elsewhere.
The 1921 painting, “Trois Femmes a la Table Rouge,” which carried a pre-sale estimate of up to $7 million, was purchased by an unidentified buyer at Sotheby’s Impressionist and Modern Art sale in New York, according to the auction house’s website.
The pop singer said in April that she bought the painting in 1990 and that selling it would combine her passions for art and education by raising funds for the Ray of Light Foundation, a non-profit organization offering vocational training for street children and poor farmers.
“I cannot accept a world where women or girls are wounded, shot or killed for either going to school or teaching in girls’ schools. We don’t have time to be complacent,” Madonna said in a statement last month.
“I want to trade something valuable for something invaluable – Educating Girls!”
Madonna has adopted two children from Malawi in southern Africa and plans to build 10 schools there.
Famous DJ and a long time Madonna collaborator, Peter Rauhofer, has passed away.
This is a message from his official facebook page:
“Today the music industry has lost one of it’s true heroes.
With a heavy heart I must now report that Peter Rauhofer has lost his battle with brain cancer.
He passed quietly today and is survived by his mother, Helga, who resides in Austria.
She will transport Peter back home to his final resting place there, but to all that knew Peter, his heart will always be in New York City.
It makes me sad, not only that I have lost a friend, but that the world has lost an amazing talent and that future generations will never get to understand the magic that Peter created night after night all over the world.
He is gone too soon but we will always have the vast body of music that Peter left for us.
Through his music, Peter will live forever. The brightest stars always burn out too soon. Peter, you were loved and you will be terribly missed. Goodbye my friend. Please rest in peace knowing that you have brought so much joy to so many of us. I ask that his true fans keep his legacy alive by sharing his music with anyone who may not have had the opportunity to experience it for themselves.”
