Madonna stands by son Rocco Ritchie after reported arrest

Madonna says she is supporting son Rocco Ritchie after reports surfaced Wednesday that the 16-year-old was arrested for possession of marijuana in London.

Madonna released a statement to The Associated Press Wednesday calling the September arrest “a family matter.”

She said: “I love my son very much. I will do whatever I can to give him the support that he needs, and I ask that you respect our privacy at this time.”

Rocco was the subject of a months-long custody dispute between Madonna and ex-husband Guy Ritchie. The couple divorced in 2008. They finally agreed in September to allow Rocco to continue living with his father in London.

According to a report in The Sun newspaper, Rocco was arrested on Sept. 28.

Rocco was arrested for Cannabis Possesion

Madonna‘s 16-year-old son Rocco Ritchie, 16, was arrested in London for possession of cannabis on Sept. 28 after neighbors near his Primrose Hill home reportedly called the police on him. The teenager, who is the son of both the singer and Guy Ritchie, was caught “smoking or doing drugs” near his house.

Rocco was allegedly seen throwing something aside when authorities approached him in Steeles Mews North, Camden, according to the Daily Mail. The police saw traces of marijuana on Rocco’s clothes, so they ended up searching him and found a small amount of pot on him. After that he was arrested and transported to a London police station and later let out on bail.

Warren Beatty looks back at dating Madonna

“She’s a huge personality, diligent and disciplined and a spectacular dancer and performer,” he says in this week’s issue of PEOPLE. “She’s a phenomenon.”

The pair first connected during filming for Beatty’s 1991 comic-book movie, Dick Tracy, in which Madonna was cast as the sultry lounge singer Breathless Mahoney. “She was perfect for that part,” says Beatty, whose latest film, Rules Don’t Apply, hits theaters Nov. 23.

The relationship didn’t last much beyond the premiere of Dick Tracy, and their conflicting views on life in the public eye were evident in her Truth or Dare documentary — a project Beatty, 79, did not want to be a part of at first.

“When we were going [out] and she was making the documentary Truth or Dare, I said, ‘I don’t want to be in it.’ And she said, ‘Why would I want you in it?’” Beatty recalls. But the actor eventually conceded: “I said if I can have approval, I don’t want to inhibit you.”

In one scene in the documentary, Madonna declines to have a doctor examine her off-camera and Beatty comments that “she doesn’t want to live off-camera, much less talk.” Now, he says he found her decision to include the moment touching.

“I thought that was a kind gesture on her part because that captured how I felt,” he says. “I was kind of touched by that because I felt that I said the right thing.”
