Madonna Hits No. 1 on Billboard Artist 100, Thanks to ‘Madame X’ Debut

Madonna re-enters the Billboard Artist 100 (dated June 29) at No. 1 to become the top musical act in the U.S. for the first time since the chart’s launch in 2014. Her new LP Madame X arrives at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 this week with 95,000 equivalent album units, according to Nielsen Music.

The set is Madonna’s ninth Billboard 200 No. 1 and first since 2012’s MDNA. She reached a prior No. 7 Artist 100 high in 2015 when her album Rebel Heart launched at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.

Madonna is the fourth solo female artist to lead the Artist 100 in 2019, following Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish and P!nk.

The Artist 100 measures artist activity across key metrics of music consumption, blending album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.

Bruce Springsteen re-enters the Artist 100 at a new No. 4 high, as his album Western Stars debuts at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 (66,000 units). The set earns The Boss his 20th Billboard 200 top 10.

Rounding out the Artist 100’s top five, Eilish rises 4-2, Taylor Swift jumps 21-3 as her new single “You Need to Calm Down” blasts onto the Billboard at No. 2, and Jonas Brothers fall to No. 5 after a week at the summit.
